21. No. Remember Nixon.
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 03:48 AM by Hekate
For some of us, it was hard to believe that shifty old cold warrior was actually dead, because we didn't get to see the stake driven through his heart. Nixon was politically resurrected several times, and when at death he was eulogized it was as an elder statesman.

W is no Richard Nixon -- Nixon had brains and cronies, but no family empire, and while W has no brains (or scrambled brains), he does have a family empire.

ON EDIT: I forgot to add that a shared trait is the desire to get even, to wreak vengeance on perceived enemies. The outing of Valerie Plame is a case in point -- in order to get back at her husband for going public with the truth about the Niger/yellow cake story, the Bush regime not only painted a bullseye on VP's back but on the backs of everyone she had ever dealt with overseas. After that, I do wonder what they threatened former Treasury Sec'y Paul O'Neill with that silenced him so speedily?

It's the BFEE that worries me. They are so connected, the way a Mafia family is connected, but in a respectable and old money sort of way. W may be out of office (please god please please please), but he will have appointed a slew of federal judges to the Supreme Court pipeline, and his cronies and family will retain influence.

Eternal vigilance is the price we pay...

beautiful mind on something like that?" ~Barbara Bush
