One of the tenets (pardon the pun) of the post-election nightmare and the placation of the more than half of the population who voted for someone other than Bush Jr. was that he would surround himself with very capable, experienced cabinet officers as well as sub-cabinet executives who could fathom what to do in times of crisis as well as those times which are not as extraordinary. This was seen as a corporate government and a great idea by apologists in the media.

Those of us who disagreed said that the extension of this is that the smartest guy in a corporation must by logical extension be the guy in the mailroom, since great executives surround themselves with people of greater capabilities. this argument of course was Swiftian and deliberately absurd on its face but the nightmare of what occurred before and after 9/11 shows the fallacy of the argument that the CEO does not have to be the sharpest knife in the drawer. Here, we had competent people baning on desks to be heard, but the puppet at the top was not interested. By his own words we know this.

So now what? We can't even imagine what the cornered animals will do.
