This is a case of "be careful what you wish for, you just might get it."
http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/army/tradoc/usaic/mipb/1998-2/HOFbios.htmBe sure to scroll down to the second honoree, Sergeant Major Raymond J. McKnight. Known to all who know him as "the little mean guy," Sergeant Major McKnight has been described as "the single biggest prick to wear the uniform in the history of the Republic." When McKnight was sergeant major of Field Station Berlin, everybody in the Berlin Command was scared of him, including the US Commander, Berlin. (This is the guy who marched a visiting three-star general from the Pentagon to the barbershop and bought him a crewcut because he thought a three-star general with hair touching his collar was a bad example for the troops. And when they were done, the general started screaming "do you know who I am? Do you have any idea who I am?" and received this response: "Yes I do. You're a soldier in the United States Army who doesn't need a haircut now.") However, he doesn't act like an asshole for no reason; he wants the best for the people he's sworn to serve, and his asshole act--when nothing's going wrong, he is a very nice man--motivates people to quit screwing his charges over.
Make Raymond J. McKnight director of the CIA and Richard Perle will be in jail inside of 72 hours, Wolfowitz right beside him. Cheney will be in the next cell at the end of the week, and Bush before close of business next Friday. He'd round up the entire Office of Special Plans before lunch on the first day and shoot them all himself. McKnight can see when things are wrong, why they're wrong and who's responsible, and he has no problem in going to extremes to fix them. McKnight personally fired three company commanders and two battalion operations officers that I know about, so convening a general court-martial for a sitting pResident wouldn't be that much of a stretch. And yes, all five of those people outranked McKnight. He didn't care.
I can think of plenty of retired officers I'd like to see as DCI--General Paul Menoher, Colonel Jack McGuinness, General Jack McMull, Colonel John Burns, General Harry Soyster, Colonel Wolf Kutter--but if you want the current maladministration cleaned out in a hurry and replaced by reasonable, intelligent people who won't start wars because there's money in it for them, there's only one choice: Raymond J. McKnight.
