This could make it worse for him if there is something there. People are going to be reminded of the "I did not have sex with that woman - Monica Lewinsky" and it won't be pretty. I get the feeling he's hedging his bet until he knows exactly what the press has. He would be better to come clean if there is anything to come clean about.
