86. And Gingrich looks like a moderate in retrospect.
Yes, there was that business with shutting down the government AND impeaching Clinton, though not the same year. Gingrich eventually paid the price for those, but we shouldn't figure that history will repeat itself and that, for instance, Tom DeLay will step down.

After Florida, the Valerie Plame incident, the claims about Ken Lay supporting Ann Richards, the claims that the tax cuts went mostly to the middle and working class, we should know the following:

Bush and the other current GOP leadership are as ruthless, lying, whorish, selfish, vindictive, slimey, sneaky, shameless, pandering, secretive, and immoral a bunch as we've ever had in office, and that's even considering the Nixon, McCarthy and Iran-contra bunch. They will do literally anything to wrest power and to keep it, and they are not interested in diplomacy, compromise, or bipartisanship (another of Bush's many, many lies).

Bush is a huge liar. He lies so often and so reflexively that a good many people don't notice it.

Bush is insensitive. He's vindictive and selfish and cold. Mario had better look to the knives sticking out of various backs (for example, Max Cleland's) before he intones any more on this misadministration and its infernal leader.

Someday people will spit and sneer at the very mention of George W. Bush's name. Let's do our part to hasten the day.
