46. the mother is not to blame.

Would it have made any difference if this man were not in the home? Would he not have shown up to teach his daughter "a lesson"? He would have killed, regardless of the mother's choice. It had nothing to do with this man's homicidal behavior.

Battered women are often - rightly - afraid that to not comply with the batterer will cause death. It's a catch-22 for victims. The most dangerous times for victims are when they leave and the abuser feels that control is diminishing.

Listen to the jerk. He killed his own daughter, because he didn't think he had enough control over her.

It's too easy to blame the mother, when clearly this man is the one who made the choice to kill. Maybe the mother shouldn't have thought that prison would teach him anything. Maybe she shouldn't have been so afraid or maybe she wasn't afraid enough. Maybe she should have hidden. Maybe it's society's fault for not rehabilitating the monster. Maybe the local police should have had more patrols. Maybe this wouldn't have happened if the courts took domestic violence more seriously and sent him to prison for good.

But, in the end, it's one person's fault that two girls are dead. The killer's.
