10. More IRR 011105 Violent battles in village near ar-Ramadi
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 10:11 AM by jmcgowanjm
In an update posted at 1:15pm Mecca time the
correspondent reported that Resistance fighters in the
village were continuing to fight US troops with knives, sticks,
and their bare hands after their ammunition ran out.
Despite their situation, the Resistance fighters had encircled
a troop of US forces in the al-Kartan area, and were not
letting them out. Six US soldiers were stabbed or beaten
to death with bayonets and rifle butts. Women in the area of
the river have been encouraging the Resistance
fighters, supporting them and pulling the bodies of their
dead into local houses to protect them from the
Americans.

In a report filed at 1:25pm Tuesday, the Mafkarat al-
Islam correspondent indicated that fighters in ar-Ramadi
had shot down a US Apache helicopter over the Euphrates
River. The craft was on its way to aid US forces cut off in
the village of al-Jazirah. The crew of the craft were killed
instantly.

The correspondent reported that the Resistance had set
10 various US vehicles ablaze with gasoline after their
crews had fled. A second column that advanced to free
an encircled group of Americans in al-Jazirah village lost four
of its vehicles destroyed – two Humvees, a tank and a
personnel carrier. Twenty six Americans were killed
in as-Sufiyah, according to witnesses. The remaining
Americans are advancing towards al-Jazirah, but there
are reports confirming that the puppet so-called “Iraqi
national guard” and puppet police had refused to join
the Americans, despite orders to do
so.

In a dispatch posted at 9:15pm Mecca time, Mafkarat al-
Islam reported that heavy armed clashes broke out on
Tuesday at 3pm in the village of al-Jazirah in the as-Sufiyah
area near ar-Ramadi. Witnesses reported that the battle left
a US column of 30 vehicles destroyed and wiped out. A total
of 128 American troops were killed, the witnesses
reported. Resistance forces seized 89 American
weapons, dozens of bullet-proof vests and
helmets.
