Republican campaign TV ad swipes at Canada
Updated Wed. Oct. 25 2006 11:08 PM ET

Canadian Press

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Republicans have been taking a swipe at Canada in a contentious election ad in Tennessee, implying the country doesn't do much when it comes to global problems.

The television ad's chief target is black Democratic Senate candidate Harold Ford Jr., who made the latest cover of Newsweek and is fighting Republican Bob Corker in a pivotal race of the do-or-die fight to control the upper house of Congress.

Various actors in the 30-second spot suggest Ford is a tax-and-spend playboy who supports gun control and is soft on terrorism and nuclear threats to the United States.

"Canada can take care of North Korea,'' says one man. "They're not busy.''
