Obama haters have boxed themselves in on Kagan
As progressive organization after progressive organization comes out in support for, as progressive politician after progressive politician comes out in support of her, the people who immediately (and preemptively) attacked her as Obama's SCOTUS nominee are now feeling the weakness of their position. Their position: as Cenk said, it's because she's Obama's pick.

They have no reason or basis for their attacks but that. And now they are fully exposed for it.

They can proclaim themselves as "the true liberals" all they want, wrap themselves up in that flag. But as Kagan's nomination gets supported by more and more progressives, they will see how far their hatred of Obama has taken them away from the truly progressive and liberal positions. It should be a wakeup call for them, but something tells me nothing will change.

2. Solicitor General Elena Kagan
looks like a really interesting choice for fighting the idiocy facism of the rw SCJs' and I think the President chose her for much more than her being a "less controversial pick".

3. The interesting thing is to listen to people that have known her for a long time

Dillinger thinks that she has the chops to become another Brandeis.

The point is not how 'left' a nominee is but how effective they are engaging debate and framing the issues.

Everything I have read or heard indicates that she will be a formidable force.

5. Not just another Brandeis ...

... but a Brandeis who doesn't end up as the lone voice of reason so much of the time.

The more I read -- ironically, much of it from the very people who want me to hate her -- the more I'm becoming convinced she may be just what this court needs.

6. There is a REAL battle on the left
That battle is for the role of "Most High Liberaller Than Thou Truth Giver", or as I call it, "Lord High Douchenozzle.

What this battle entails is who gains the reputation as the finest of the anti-Obama crowd from the left. The payoff is in television face time, radio air time, and most importantly advertising revenue for their web site.

As with everything else in the media, it's all about money.

Right now, Glenn Greenwald holds the title of Lord High Douchenozzle. Jane Hamsher made a play for the title during health care reform and was resoundingly beaten after HCR passed. She has come back to make another play during the Kagan dustup, but on the outside lane Cenk Uygur has made his move.

My pick? The current Lord Privy Douchenozzle, David Sirota, will come out of hiding after the other three have destroyed what credibility they have left to take the title wiht the next poutrage.

7. Here's what Al Giordano has to say about that..
"Now, it has been entirely predictable that the board members of Poutrage, Inc. – those self-proclaimed “progressive” pundits who have never been community organizers and resent Obama and all the rest of us that have actually done that work and won political battles because they keep failing at it – are caught up in their cyclical careerist protagonism over the Kagan nomination. I won’t mention any names, but of course Glenn Greenwald and Jane Hamsher are up to their Johnny-one-note tricks of getting their faces on the cable talk shows and in the media by proclaiming themselves “progressives against an Obama proposal” on any particular policy. They are as predictable as they are unconvincing, and although they always lose, they never change their bumbling tactics, I conclude that they are not interested in winning the issues they claim to care about. They are only interested in their own careers and egos and in fooling the gullible to send donations to their projects of self-enrichment.*** The issues are merely the means to try to make themselves relevant to the national discourse."

8. Yep, all that Al left out is that the market for Poutrage is so small
that the usual suspects are all battling it out for as much market share in a small (but dwindling) market as they can get.

experts and groups representatives tend to be skilled self promoters or famous people rather than actual experts and true representatives.

9. What about those who argue that "Republicans picked RIGHT-WINGERS!"
Edited on Tue May-11-10 04:24 PM by NYC Liberal
Do we really want liberal versions of them? I sure as hell don't. Just like I don't want Obama to be a liberal Bush who breaks the law, rules like a dictator, politicizes departments that shouldn't be politicized, and intrudes upon things that are Congress' responsibilities.

21. Yes, that's what they want ...

Many of them are not even shy about saying it anymore.

During many recent controversies, those attacking the President from the leftward side of the spectrum have used some variation of "Bush did this, why can't Obama?" as their entire reasoning.

They want payback, revenge. It's a type of bloodlust. They're all channeling Howard Beale.

22. There will always be bad people who manage to win,
so the idea that we must be just as bad to get our own policies enacted is nuts. There will be bad presidents - Bush being one of them - but it's no reason for us to turn around and use the same kind of tactics with the rationale that "They do whatever it takes, so should we!"

23. Reminds me of 5th grade ...

I was sitting here at my desk the other day, and this scene formed in my head of a memory from my fifth grade year. I found it odd that I even had that memory up there near enough to the surface that it would emerge like that, but after I questioned myself a bit, I realized a couple of threads in GD had triggered it.

The details were different, but the general atmosphere was strikingly similar.

10. Sometimes I wonder if they ever leave their liberal enclaves.
How can they possibly think that the majority of DU members are not liberal. There is a reality out there.
