Minecraft
Oh Jesus. Jesus Christ.

I just got Minecraft.

:banghead: DIGITAL. CRACK. :banghead:

must....go....build......

The beginning of my Warehouse. This will be vast.

So for all you Minecraft players on here (and I just know there are a few), how do I improve this? I keep seeing things about mods, texture packs, and such, but the ones I've wanted either aren't compatible with the current version of the game, have been discontinued entirely, or are reported as being so buggy that they're not worth it. For my part, I found one 128x128 texture pack/mod that looked great, but crashed the game when I broke a block, and from which the developer has since walked away. I restored /bin and my saves were unaffected, but still...

Am I just stuck with 8-bit Minecraft, or is there something out there following the development of the game itself?

And where does redstone usually show up? Where do I... how.... what pattern on the table?

:banghead: I'm going to regret this. I know it. :banghead:

:D

1. Been playing it for awhile.
Haven't modded it at all because I LIKE how it looks....the 8 bit landscape has it's own sort of beauty. I have a huge castle, a floating island base, several log cabins, and a huge mineshaft hole. Only thing I have yet to play around with is the mine carts and rails. I even sailed for almost a day. made a house, saved it, started a new life (in the same world!) and saved in the bed, and then eventually, travelled back home. Finding new ways of having fun is the key.

2. Minecarts and rails are quite fun. Especially now...
...since they've added powered rails. You don't need to figure out booster carts anymore: you just need enough gold to make enough powered rails. The Minecraft wiki suggests you place a powered rail every 25 meters (blocks) to keep the momentum going.

3. Uh oh. You're in trouble now. You've discovered Minecraft.
And now you'll never get out. Ever.

And redstone appears deep down in the earth. Around the places that gold, lapis lazuli, and diamond appear.

4. Thanks for the advice. I'll dig deep a bit later and see what I find.
I was looking around in a game guide I got on my ipod, and saw that you can make something called a redstone repeater to construct circuits and even logical memory (!!). The picture I saw had like 900 repeaters in a grid.

Not sure what I would use those for yet, but damn.... you can build circuits... and logic relays with actual memory... and stuff.

You're right, of course. The rest of the world will be dead to me for some time to come :D

9. So I dug down to bedrock and didn't find anything worth having.
Then I used MCEdit to look at the whole.

I dug right past all the ores. Coal, iron, redstone, gold, and diamond. I dug a shaft that went right past everything on its way down.

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

What a waste of time. Now I have to dig it all out.

10. Yeah. That happened to me several times.
I ended up putting on a pair of headphones while underground and listening for the sounds of zombies. Then I dug towards them.

Although if you missed all the ores, you probably don't have much in the way of swords or armor, so be careful.

Once you hit an underground cavern system, though, it's so much fun.

6. heh

I refuse to play Minecraft, because I already play WoW and three different games on the PS3. I have no time. :D It just looks like too much fun.

8. Okay, what server do I visit for multiplayer?
And what the hell is this "Nations at War" thing I keep hearing about?

11. I've not done much multiplayer save for a local server I run on my desktop...
I've only given out the IP to my brother and my sister so all my nephews and my niece, who was the first one of them to really take to the game, can play online and build stuff.

Right now we're working on a two-way undersea subway system between the main castle and the "Western Frontier".

14. Is it even possible to use glass bocks to build an underwater area?
I tried and got flooded out every time. Are buckets involved somehow?

15. I've found two techniques that work.
First, you have to build your tunnel. I suggest working on the bottom track layer (be sure to watch your air so you don't drown) first, then the walls of the tunnel, then the ceiling.

Then you dig out the tunnel itself. And either carry out the water with buckets or put sand blocks where the water squares are; the source squares, specifically. If you replace a square that's a water "source" it will eliminate that square from the total water content of the tunnel when you remove that square. Using a bucket does the same thing, but then you have to dump out the bucket.

I've tried both methods and the replace-and-dig method seemed to work faster for building a tunnel under the sea.

13. I have that map!
It's awesome. Lots and lots and lots of stuff to see. The minecart transportation system in particular is cool, but there's so much to see, it's hard to pick out any one thing.

It's one of the most monumental Mincraft maps ever made, and really very beautifully done.

18. I was watching that video earlier and it makes some really cool effects possible
I loved the Indiana Jones-ish stone door that opens and extrudes steps. That has a lot of potential for some grand entrances and traps. The block exchanger at the end was awesome, too, and I think could also be used in traps (I wonder what happens when you put blocks on top of the ones that are moving- do you get spinning columns?).

Were you ever playing the Nations at War mod? I just got whitelisted and I'm really liking what they're doing.

There's a Kraken coming in the mod. It most certainly will rip apart boats.

19. I have not looked into the Nations at War mod.
I will admit I don't do very well with strangers on the internet. Most of them will yell at you if you don't know what you're doing even if it's your first time playing a game.

I did see the videos you linked before and it does look really cool.
