1. Yes. Its an asshole "activist judge" that the repukes love to complain about
I can't see how this has any force of law. This ruling is a breach of church and state rule IMO. There is no law which says that a certain amounts of embryos must be made availiable for adoption. Its not like there's a shortage OF ACTUAL CHILDREN out there for adoption. I expect it to be overturned eventually. However, I think this will only stop new research not stuff currently going on, which since this was signed a long time ago, I expect not too many research facilities will be affected.

2. My play on this...
The two researchers who can move forward with their lawsuit have some skin in the game. They are working with adult stem cells and could loose funding to researchers who are working with embryonic stem cells. It is all about the money.

3. The ruling is by a right wing judge who is referring to an obscure
amendment that has been added to every budget for the past few years by a couple of redneck Republicans that forbids any budget money to be spent on "the destruction of human embryos" even though that funding is explicitly granted elsewhere in the budget.

In other words, a cafeteria judge simply decided an amendment to the budget has greater force than the line item within the budget.

He should be overturned. The two rednecks (one from Mississippi and one from Arkansas, as I recall) should be flogged until they are dead.
