My good deed for the day... [View all]

I'll preface this by saying that I don't really care for Starbucks. Reports of their coffee being over-roasted are not exaggerated in the least. But hey, not only are they convenient, if I can do my part for the War on Christmas, I will.

Anyway, I was out the door and on my way to pick up my daily paper and "coffee" at my local Starbucks, when I saw a couple. They were on a local street corner, and as I approached, they sat down on something they had with them, huddled under an umbrella in the rain, clutching a cardboard sign proclaiming their homelessness and asking for help. As I passed them, I nodded a greeting.

Starbucks is across the street and a little back in a small strip mall, and as I continued a thought formulated in my mind. I stepped inside, and as it was late in the day, coffee-wise (meaning early afternoon) the place was virtually empty. I carried out my plan, grabbing a paper from the stand and stepped up to the cashier to order my usual grande Americano. I'm not much for lattes and fancy shit, I just like coffee. But I also ordered two 12 ounce Americanos.

I was a little worried that the couple would have left, but they were still there, so I walked up and handed them their coffee and a few sugar packets for some nutritional value of sorts. I also gave them 5 bucks, wished them good luck, and continued on my way.

Oh, and fuck all of you heartless bastards that think I somehow 'enabled' these people. This story is my lawn.
