7. I'll say my condition is much improved

I was deemed totally and permanently disabled by the VA in 2015, I started collecting Social Security Disability (SSD) soon after that and a third retirement from my previous employer. Financially, I’m doing just fine. My wife left me two years ago and that has been the best thing in the world for me and my general stress level is drastically down.

I still suffer from severe PTSD and get hospitalized once or twice a year as a result, but that’s part of the course my life has taken me.

Oddly, considering the financial situation that’s developing, I couldn’t be more relieved to have absolute income stability. Aside from that, I’m very close to my children (9 and 11) and I get to be there for everything at school and drive them to various lessons and practices.

Disability is a trade-off. I’ve lost a lot in some areas of my life and gained a lot in others. I’d say I’m content with where I’m at in life.
