5. When I worked at IRS, some taxpayer, thinking he was clever (I guess)

took a somewhat ratty-looking shirt and wrote "Pay to the order of Internal Revenue Service" with the amount of his taxes owed, just as you would on a check, and signed his name on it. Implying that IRS was taking the shirt off his back.

But it constituted a legal check, and we cashed it and it somehow cleared the banks.
