Group of House lawmakers work together to advance bipartisan legislation
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-08) announced today that she has joined the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus. The groups membership is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, who collaborate on practical, pragmatic solutions to improve peoples lives, providing an important vehicle in the House of Representatives to advance bipartisan legislation.
Throughout my 14 years working in national security, no one ever asked if I was a Democrat or Republican because we were focused on the mission, Slotkin said. Im so proud to be part of the Problem Solvers Caucus, a group of lawmakers with equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans who employ that same bipartisan mission-focus by working together on legislation that matters to peoples families and to their pocketbooks.

Slotkin emphasizes Michigans role in uniting communities across party lines, reiterates pledge to represent each 8th district resident

Slotkin reiterated her pledge to work to represent every resident of the 8th district regardless of party or whether or not they voted for her: There are people here Ive never met who just came by, there are people who have come up to me and said, I didnt vote for you but Im willing to give you a chance. And let me say very, very clearly that it does not matter if you voted for me, it does not matter if youre a Democrat or Republican or Independent or anything in between, my job is to represent you, to listen to you, and to do everything I can to improve your lives. That is my job and I take that extremely seriously.
Places like Michigan, where we have neighbors and family members with different political views we are a rarer and rarer thing across the country, she added. People are separating out into political groups in a way that I think is unhealthy and antithetical to what our Founding Fathers wanted for us, which was to be a country where we could all provide our ideas and our ingenuity and our excitement and our hope and provide that to move us forward, instead of separating out into different Americas. So Michigan has a very specific role to play in reminding people what this country is about and how were going to act.
