35. I usually hold my tongue, but sometimes

I need to (can't stop myself) from replying to the right wing nuts who assume everyone in their orbit thinks like they do. I do so politely. My boss, who is a Democrat, will say something to me like "it's best not to engage with them." I then reply "You know I hold my tongue 99 out of 100 times, but somehow I can't completely repress my reaction, and need to comment once in a while.

I live in a 60/40 repug county, and work in a store that's been in business almost 100 years. We sell Military stuff, bags, pants, t-shirts, coats, hats and caps, boots, and assorted stickers, pins, patches, etc. among other things like socks, t-shirts, hats, water bottles, hiking poles.

During Obama's presidency, I'd often hear comments disparaging him. Every once in a while I'd reply "I think he was a very good president" or "I voted for him." Or during Bush2 when they'd bash president Clinton I'd say something similar.

I haven't engaged 45 supporters much. 3 years ago someone came in looking for a rump flag. I gave them a confused look, replied we didn't carry political items. And yesterday a man was in wearing a trump cap, not red. We had a pleasant conversation about their visit to the town, celebrating their 45th anniversary, his military service. He didn't bring up 45, but then he didn't need to because he was wearing the hat! I gave him a military discount, thanked him for his service. In retrospect, I might have offered to sell him a different, better hat, but didn't go there. But I might in the near future.

Have you seen the website Republican voters against trump? They have testimonials from repugs who warn or rant against 45, pledge to support Biden. I take some comfort from that.

As for revisionist history, we live in a time when we have to deal with a revisionist present, and the layers of truth (and lies) are partially obscured, and complicated by the internet.
Many in the present and future will earn or enhance their academic credentials by investigating, uncovering, and consolidating the incredible amount of information about the failures of the current administration.

I look forward to reading the history of current times in 5, 10 and 20 years.
