served in Rosenstein's position overseeing Mr. Mueller, since her husband is in the law firm currently representing one of the two people indicted (unless her husband opted to leave the firm). More, while she is a qualified person for the DOJ position she has had, there are reasons to believe that supervising Team Mueller would fit with her experience. And she is certainly aware that Trump would have pressured her to fire Mr. Mueller without cause. Safe to say she didn't want to be in that situation.

It is likely that she felt pressured to resign, as the Trump folks apparently believe the next-in-line would be sympathetic to the White House. But there is a conflict of interest there, too. It is unclear what the immediate future holds.

Being friends with Ted Cruz should qualify as a conflict with reality.
