Trump to travel to Arizona Honeywell facility next week amid push to lift coronavirus restrictions

Source: USA Today

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump will travel to Phoenix on Tuesday, leaving the confines of Washington for the first time in more than a month as the administration begins pushing states to ease coronavirus restrictions that have crippled the U.S. economy.

The president will visit a Honeywell aerospace facility that is expanding its production to meet the demand for the critical N-95 respirator masks needed for health care workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, according to White House spokesman Judd Deere.

"The visit will highlight Honeywell’s investment in critical medical equipment production within the United States and the addition of 500 manufacturing jobs in Arizona," Deere said in a statement. "President Trump and his Administration, and the Coronavirus Task Force continue to lead the fight for Arizona and the country against this invisible enemy."

The president revealed his travel plans earlier Wednesday during a roundtable discussion with business executives from companies including Hilton, Waffle House and Wynn Resorts.

Alabama to partially reopen despite rising coronavirus

Source: The Hill

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) said Tuesday that she will allow retailers, some businesses and state beaches to reopen on Thursday, despite acknowledging that Alabama’s number of COVID-19 cases is still rising.

Ivey said she will not extend the state’s expiring stay-at-home order, but will issue a new “safer at home” order, effective Thursday, that encourages, but doesn’t require, people to stay home.

Businesses will be allowed to open if they follow sanitation and social-distancing guidelines, but “higher-risk” establishments — including gyms, theaters, bowling alleys and night clubs — will remain closed. All retail stores will be able to open at a 50 percent occupancy rate.

Revealed: leader of group peddling bleach as coronavirus 'cure' wrote to Trump this week

Source: The Guardian

The leader of the most prominent group in the US peddling potentially lethal industrial bleach as a “miracle cure” for coronavirus wrote to Donald Trump at the White House this week.
In his letter, Mark Grenon told Trump that chlorine dioxide – a powerful bleach used in industrial processes such as textile manufacturing that can have fatal side-effects when drunk – is “a wonderful detox that can kill 99% of the pathogens in the body”. He added that it “can rid the body of Covid-19”.
A few days after Grenon dispatched his letter, Trump went on national TV at his daily coronavirus briefing at the White House on Thursday and promoted the idea that disinfectant could be used as a treatment for the virus. To the astonishment of medical experts, the US president said that disinfectant “knocks it out in a minute. One minute!”
He went on to say: “Is there a way we can do something, by an injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that.”
Trump did not specify where the idea of using disinfectant as a possible remedy for Covid-19 came from, and the source for his notion remains obscure. But the Guardian has learned that peddlers of chlorine dioxide – industrial bleach – have been making direct approaches to the White House in recent days.

Coronavirus: US death toll passes 50,000

Source: BBC

The US virus death toll has surpassed 50,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, in what is the world's deadliest Covid-19 outbreak.

More than 3,000 deaths came in the last 24 hours, and there are now over 870,000 confirmed cases nationwide.

But the US still has a lower mortality rate than most European nations based on current case counts, as the White House task force has emphasised.

Recent rises are also partly due to the inclusion of "probable" virus deaths.

The US has by far the highest death toll and case count in the world.

However, it has a population of 330 million, much higher than other worst affected countries such as Spain and Italy.

Dr Deborah Birx, an expert on the White House Covid-19 task force, has said the country has "one of the lowest mortality rates in the entire world".

On a per capita basis, the reported US death rate of 1.4 is lower than Spain, Italy, France, Belgium and the UK.

Remember all the fuss about Muslim women wearing face coverings like burkas & niqabs?

Many in the US and overseas trying to ban them, Boris Johnson being one leader putting a stop to it. Well, now that we are all covering our faces with one thing or another, its mainstream now, don't hear much complaining going on about it. I find that ironic & really points out how racist or Islamophobic those objections truly were.

Trump Told Aides To Think Of Each Presidential Day As ‘An Episode Of a TV Show In Which He Defeats Rivals’

In a recent New York Times’ exposé on Donald Trump in the White House, one line stood out as absolutely critical to understanding how the scandal-prone president approaches his job.

“Before taking office, Mr. Trump told top aides to think of each presidential day as an episode in a television show in which he vanquishes rivals,” according to the Times.

and now we got the tRump daily show.

Louisiana pastor who defied covid-19 orders is asking people to give their stimulus money to church

Source: CNN

A Louisiana pastor who defied state orders and repeatedly held large church services during the coronavirus pandemic is now asking congregants to donate their stimulus checks to the church.

Pastor Tony Spell launched what he called the #PastorSpellStimulusChallenge, asking Americans to donate their government stimulus checks to evangelists, missionaries and music ministers who he said have not received offerings in over a month. He said he, his wife and his son have all donated their checks, and added that those without a church can donate through his website.

Asked by CNN's Victor Blackwell on Sunday why he is asking "people who you know don't have much" to hand over their $1,200 stimulus checks, Spell said it was because some evangelists and missionaries don't receive stimulus money.
"We are challenging you, if you can, give your stimulus package to evangelists and missionaries, who do not get the stimulus package," he told CNN Sunday.

Where the Very Rich Fly to Hide, Wyoming's Jackson Hole has become a redoubt against the coronavirus

?

A wall of jagged peaks rises nearly 14,000 feet above the valley floor of Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Seeing it for the first time can literally be jaw-dropping as you fly into the valley of Jackson Hole, where private jets carrying wealthy passengers fleeing Covid-19 hot spots elsewhere have landed in recent weeks.

Some have brought their own medical equipment — even a ventilator, according to one local doctor — to this remote corner of Wyoming. With its magnificent landscape and extremely favorable state tax policies for the rich, Teton County, home to Jackson Hole, has quietly become the richest county in the United States. Its per capita income is the nation’s highest, at $251,728, nearly $58,000 more than Manhattan, its closest competitor. The county’s 1 percent earned an average of $22.5 million a year in 2015.

Christie Watts, a life coach based in Jackson Hole, said that at the height of the recent influx, “it was difficult to receive” official alerts for residents to stay home “while the airport was crammed with hundreds of people.”

Plane landings have slowed in recent weeks as wealthier arrivals have hunkered down. Yet even a slow trickle of virus interlopers can have an outsize impact on a small rural enclave.

The chasm between the rich and the rest in Teton County is bridged by an uneasy alliance between the wealthy owners of vacation homes and the lower-income residents who depend on them for their livelihoods. The county has the country’s widest disparity in income between the top 1 percent and the bottom 99. Now the pandemic is laying bare the tensions of that relationship as service workers must choose between continuing to do jobs that may expose them to the virus, or risk the loss of wages, health insurance and eviction. All three of the area’s ski resorts shut down about a month early because of the pandemic, and restaurants and the national parks are closed.

“It’s disgraceful to see people not understand the severity of the problems,” one airport worker told me. “It makes it uneasy to provide the services we do to these kinds of people. I live paycheck to paycheck and I don’t have much saved up in my account to handle” a serious illness.
