Falwell set to get $10.5 million in compensation as he leaves Liberty University

https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/513684-falwell-to-get-105-million-in-compensation-as-he-leaves-liberty

Jerry Falwell Jr. is expected to receive a $10.5 million severance package as he leaves his post as president of Liberty University. Falwell told The Washington Post that he will receive $2.5 million over the next two years, during which he will not work for a competing institution. He will then receive about $8 million in retirement as part of a contract he signed in July 2019.

“The board was gracious not to challenge that,” Falwell told the newspaper, maintaining “I haven’t done anything.” Liberty University officially accepted Falwell’s resignation on Tuesday, with the longtime university leader leaving the institution under a cloud of personal scandal.

Falwell first came under scrutiny earlier this month after he posted a photo of himself on a yacht with his arm around a young woman and his pants unzipped. A longtime business partner then claimed Falwell was a willing participant in a years-long affair involving his wife, Becki Falwell.

The couple has acknowledged the affair but has denied that Jerry Falwell was involved, claiming the former business partner was trying to blackmail the couple – allegations the former associate has dismissed.

1,100-Year-Old Treasure Is Unearthed by Teenagers in Israel

The discovery of hundreds of gold coins dating to the ninth century could help archaeologists better understand the history of the region. The discovery offers proof of interactions between the Abbasid Caliphate and the Byzantine Empire, two rival powers of the time.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/24/world/middleeast/israel-gold-coins-archaeology.html

The treasure needed to be secured. So the hoard of 425 gold coins was stowed in a clay jar, its lid secured with a nail, and stashed in the sands of what is now central Israel. It then sat undisturbed for more than 1,100 years, until last week, when two 18-year-olds taking part in an archaeological excavation by a hillside in Yavneh noticed something unusual.

“I dug in the ground and, when I excavated the soil, saw what looked like very thin leaves,” said Oz Cohen, one of the teenagers. “When I looked again, I saw these were gold coins. It was really exciting to find such a special and ancient treasure.” The teenagers were volunteers in a vast project linked to the construction of a community in Yavneh, south of Tel Aviv. The program offers the promise of connecting young people with history, and, while it is meant to be culturally rewarding, it is not often that someone strikes gold — literally.

In fact, Robert Kool, a coin expert at the Israel Antiquities Authority, said the find was a “rare treasure” that could help archaeologists gain a deeper understanding of what was happening in the region at the time. The coins, which weigh less than two pounds and are made of pure gold, date to the ninth century, when the Abbasid Caliphate ruled a vast empire stretching from Persia in the east to North Africa in the west. “The hoard consists of full gold dinars, but also — what is unusual — contains about 270 small gold cuttings, pieces of gold dinars cut to serve as small change,” Mr. Kool said in a statement.

The cutting of gold and silver coins was a regular feature of the monetary system in Islamic countries after the 850s with the sudden disappearance of bronze and copper coins, he said. One of the cuttings unearthed last week, which Mr. Kool said had never before been found in excavations in Israel, included a fragment of a gold solidus coin of the Byzantine emperor Theophilos, who ruled from 829 to 842. Its appearance in an Islamic coin hoard offers proof of the continuous connections between the two rival empires during this period, scholars say. Whether it was through war or trade, money kept flowing.

I guarantee 75%+ of MAGAts would go full cuck and let Rump pool-boy their wives in front of them

and most all would beat her down (or let Rump beat her down) if she put up some resistance

that level of brainwashing, even if Rump and the Rethugs are voted out in 2020, bodes very ill for a civil war-free future

Watch the First, Very Emo Trailer for 'The Batman'

Battinson is here.

https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/the-batman-movie-teaser-robert-pattinson

After an entire day of DC content, including a new Wonder Woman 1984 trailer

and a look at the much ballyhooed Snyder Cut,

the company brought out the big guns Saturday evening: the first look at Matt Reeves' The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. And it seems emo as hell.

Battinson, as he is known, is at first glance a scruffier take on the Caped Crusader than we are used to seeing. The trailer, set to Nirvana's "Something in the Way," teases a mystery in which Pattinson's Batman is hunting down a villain who leaves him messages like "No More Lies" in an unnerving scrawl. It seems like the culprit is probably Paul Dano's The Riddler, given the nature of the threats. However, Reeves has cast a number of prominent actors as bad guys, including Colin Farrell as The Penguin. If Farrell is here, he's cloaked in unrecognizable makeup. We do get a good look at Zoë Kravitz's Selina Kyle, whose costume is pretty DIY, and Jeffrey Wright's Commissioner Gordon. Audiences also get a taste of Pattinson's Batman issuing a brutal beatdown and growling, "I am vengeance."

Reeves, introducing the trailer at the DC FanDome, explained that it's not quite an origin story for Batman, but it "touches on his origins."

This is certainly not a cheery take on the oft-portrayed hero, but it does look highly appealing to the goths among us. In one shot, Batsy wears heavy eyeliner, looking ready to go to a My Chemical Romance concert. The movie, production on which was delayed because of COVID-19 concerns, is due out October 1, 2021.

7 Cheeses You Need to Try on a Burger

https://www.thrillist.com/eat/nation/best-cheeses-for-burgers

For me, a burger without cheese is simply incomplete. There’s something so glorious about the way those beef juices marry with a tangy slice of melting cheese. I love me a simple Wisconsin Cheddar, and most days I welcome that orange slice on my burger, but sometimes I get a hankering for a little more funk. Honestly, there are just too many cheeses in this world for cheddar monogamy. Of course, not all cheeses are meant for burgers. Some won’t melt, and others are simply too precious for anything other than a solo savoring session. But when you want to get a little weird with your cheeseburger, treat yourself to one of these bad boys.

Fontina Val d'Aosta

This raw milk rockstar is basically an Italian Gruyère. It has a robust, meaty flavor with hints of toasted nuts and a texture so silky it’s often used in fondue recipes. To make it extra melty, bring it to room temperature, slice it thin, and layer generously. Finish it off with some pickled sweet peppers, which really tie that thick flavor together. I also recommend pouring a glass of red vino for this Italian Stallion.

Burrata

Shreds of cream-soaked mozzarella stuffed inside a sturdy mozzarella shell, burrata makes for some explicit burger porn. The mozzarella melts into the meat while the center oozes all over the patty. There’s a lot of juice happening here, so the build is really important. Start by layering the bottom bun with a handful of arugula to avoid a soggy bottom. Slice the burrata in half, then place it cut-side-down on the patty, so the beef juices meld with the cheese’s cream center. Finish it off with a drizzle of balsamic and some chopped roasted tomatoes.

Smoked Blue

Blue cheese is a classic choice, but a smoked one really takes that bomb flavor combination to the next level. It’s pungent, fudge-y, and full of bacon-y flavors that complement the grilled patty’s natural smokiness. Slices are way easier to handle than crumbles, so bring the wedge to room temperature and use a sharp knife to get the cleanest cut. A little bacon onion jam is really the only way to complete this masterpiece.

Bucheron

This grassy French log brings a trio of seductive textures: the dense center is surrounded by a soft, gooey layer and a firmer, snow white rind. It doesn’t really melt as much as it relaxes into the burger. Classic fresh goat cheese is also great on a burger, but it’s not quite as exciting as Bucheron’s punchier grassy flavor. It’s a rich, flavorful combination, so break it up with some sweet fig jam and peppery arugula.
