Maine governor deems congressional election 'stolen' while certifying result

Source: CNN

November's congressional election in Maine marked the first time in US history the ranked-choice voting system determined the outcome of a congressional race. The new state law mandates ranked-choice tabulation be applied in any federal race in which no candidate receives a majority of the vote.
Democratic Rep-elect Jared Golden was projected by CNN as the winner of the election in Maine's second district with 50.6% of the vote, and his opponent, Rep. Bruce Poliquin, received 49.4% of the vote.

"Not only are the Governor's comments wrong, this is yet another attempt by the Maine GOP to undermine the will of Mainers, who twice voted to approve RCV," Golden said in a statement released Friday. "Maine people are tired of this kind of poor leadership -- which is why they voted for sweeping change in November."

Dem senator vows to donate salary for each day of government shutdown

Source: MSN

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) announced early Saturday morning that she would again donate her salary to a charity for every day the federal government is shut down.

"I cannot take a salary during a government shutdown knowing that so many federal workers in Nevada and across the country will go without pay," Cortez Masto tweeted shortly after the shutdown began at midnight. "I'll be donating my salary to a Nevada charity for every day of the Trump shutdown."

Cortez Masto also criticized President Trump for bringing the country "into yet another crisis right before the holidays."

"We should be working together to end to this shutdown," she wrote in another tweet.

Trump torches Graham for criticizing his Syria troops plan

Source: https://www.politico.com/story/2018/12/20/trump-re

President Donald Trump slapped back at one of his biggest supporters-turned-gadfly on Thursday, accusing Sen. Lindsey Graham of opposing fewer military casualties by urging Trump to reconsider pulling U.S. forces out of Syria.

Since word got out that Trump had made the sudden decision to begin withdrawing troops from the conflict-riven country, backlash from both sides of the aisle has come swiftly and only intensified.

Graham has been one of the most vocal critics of Trump's plan and has saturated any media the president is sure to see — especially Twitter and cable TV — to express his outrage. On Wednesday night, Graham said the abrupt move, in which Trump broke with his national security team, would be a “stain on the honor of the United States.”

In a news conference Thursday, Graham implored the president to reverse course and promised that Trump would incur the senator’s wrath if he did not.

“President Trump — I will help you any way I can … but because you’re a Republican, I’m not going to ignore what I believe,” Graham said. “I’m going to give you an honest evaluation. I was willing to support a Democrat if he followed sound military advice. I’m willing to fight a Republican if you don’t.”

But in a tweet hours later, Trump mused that it was “so hard to believe that Lindsey Graham would be against saving soldier lives & billions of $$$.”

Though Trump on Wednesday declared victory over ISIS in Syria, he’s largely backed off that assertion, arguing instead that it shouldn’t be the responsibility of the U.S. to take on the Islamic State on its own in the region.

Jared Goff..a passing phenom?

Amazing how quickly a pro team can fall down..The rams..super team a month ago..
and now not executing like they used to..And the patriots got beat..2 in a row!
Down the stretch is going to be interesting..

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2811093-nick-foles-leads-eagles-to-shocking-upset-of-rams-as-jared-goff-struggles-on-snf?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_campaign=editorial&utm_medium=referral

Jared Goff threw for 339 yards and two interceptions without a touchdown in the Rams' second straight national television loss. His potential game-tying touchdown pass to Josh Reynolds fell incomplete as time expired.

Is Goff a Super Bowl-caliber quarterback, or is he Alex Smith, a guy good enough to get you in the conversation but never get you there?

It's clear teams have, to a certain extent, figured Goff out. The Detroit Lions started setting the blueprint by putting Goff under duress, the Chicago Bears perfected the mold in an all-out embarrassment last week, and the Eagles kept the downward spiral going Sunday.

Trump invited the incoming Kansas governor to the White House. She said she was busy.

Kansas’ incoming Democratic governor skipped a bipartisan meeting at the White House Thursday that gave newly elected governors of both parties a chance to present their priorities to President Donald Trump and other administration officials.

Trump campaigned aggressively for Gov-elect Laura Kelly’s Republican opponent, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, this fall. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence both traveled to Kansas in an effort to defeat Kelly and elect Kobach.

During one rally, Trump described Kelly as “far left” — blasting her low NRA rating and claiming she supports giving public benefits to undocumented immigrants.

Kelly’s team said she was unable to travel to Washington because she is focused on the transition and the state budget.

Brett Favre duped by white supremacists into making anti-semitic conspiracy video

Source: MSN

A new video service called Cameo was launched in April 2018 with the intent of allowing celebrities to record short, personalized videos for fans. The service includes a stable of athletes with a wide range of varying relevance, all of whom you can hear say your name in exchange for a quick payment.

Those videos could be something like a personal greeting, a birthday shout-out or a holiday celebration. Apparently, they could also be a assortment of coded, anti-semitic language meant to validate white supremacists.

A report from Buzzfeed on Friday revealed that a group of white supremacist YouTubers have been using Cameo to dupe celebrities into endorsing racial messages and conspiracy theories. That group of celebrities reportedly includes comedian Andy Dick, rapper Soulja Boy and, most notably, Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre.
Brett Favre accidentally records video rife with anti-semitic language

For a fee of $500, Favre’s going rate on Cameo, two alt-right trolls reportedly submitted instructions for a video that were approved by Favre. The Hall of Fame quarterback then recorded himself saying the following:

“Brett Favre here with a shoutout to the Handsome Truth and the GDL boys,” Favre said in the shaky video. “You guys are patriots in my eyes. So keep waking them up and don’t let the small get you down. Keep fighting too and don’t ever forget the USS Liberty and the men and women who died on that day. God bless and take care.”

While the text of that video might raise an eyebrow at first glance, it’s also not hard to see how Favre might have skimmed the instructions and not realized what he was doing.

Kobach for Homeland Security? Petition wants Trump to nominate Kansas official

November 28, 2018 06:45 AM

Updated 6 hours 47 minutes ago

A new petition urges President Donald Trump to name Kris Kobach the next secretary of homeland security, after Kobach lost the race for Kansas governor earlier this month.

A WhiteHouse.gov petition created on Monday had gathered nearly 7,300 signatures as of Tuesday evening — with 100,000 needed by Dec. 26 to force the White House to respond.

“No one is more qualified to address the ongoing border crisis and to carry out the Trump Administration’s immigration agenda than Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach,” the petition says.

Kobach’s term as Kansas secretary of state will end in January. He has not yet announced his future plans after conceding defeat in the Nov. 6 general election to Democrat Laura Kelly.
