Phila: Rizzo Statue finally will be removed.

Frank Rizzo statue to be removed soon by the city, Kenney says

Kenney said that the controversial statue of former Philadelphia Mayor Frank Rizzo at the Municipal Services Building, which protestors attempted to remove on Saturday, will be removed soon by the city.

Supreme Court rules in favor of CA allowing church closings due to Covid

"Supreme Court, in 5-4 Decision, Rejects Church’s Challenge to Shutdown Order
A California church argued that restrictions on public gatherings treated houses of worship worse than many businesses."

"The Supreme Court on Friday turned away a request from a church in California to block enforcement of state restrictions on attendance at religious services."

"The vote was 5 to 4, with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. joining the court’s four-member liberal wing to form a majority."

“Although California’s guidelines place restrictions on places of worship, those restrictions appear consistent with the free exercise clause of the First Amendment,” Chief Justice Roberts wrote in an opinion concurring in the unsigned ruling."

NY City through the centuries...

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/13/arts/design/manhattan-virtual-tour-virus.html

Millions of years of rock formations, ice ages thicker than the Empore State Bldg, and mountains of discarded oyster shells, NYC has changed in a million ways.

"Then there’s an extensive glacial history — at least seven glaciation events over the last 620,000 years. Then as the climate changed, the glacier retreated and a whole series of giant glacial lakes formed."

"We know from historical records that people caught hundreds and hundreds of fish in a few hours just casting their nets off Ellis Island during the 18th and 19th centuries — before the harbor became polluted and dams were built that closed off streams upriver where the fish had gone to breed."

"The Dutch and the English wanted to expand the island into the rivers, not move uptown, so they sold water lots to people who were then under contract to fill the lots in. They would knock down hills and use that soil or take garbage from the dump. What’s now the land between Water Street and the F.D.R. Drive is all landfill, like much of the west side, which in 1609 was a white sand beach all the way up to 42nd Street."

Jonathan Pie "Lockdown #6"

Apparently Pie is as pissed off at his government's (UK) response as we are at our Dear Leader's response to Covid in the US.

About BigmanPigman

I am 57, retired teacher and illustrator, life-long dem., activist, union member. Also I do not use social media and I'm technologically retarded. I love dogs, rock music and swearing (a lot). My 17 year old "puppy" died on June 2, 2020. She grew up listening to Animals (Pink Floyd). She has kept me sane through the tRump years, not easy, and has given me endless love, companionship, kisses and tail wags.
