The second wave is coming...
The first COVID-19 wave is still going on here in America, and soon we will have to prepare for the second wave. The first one, it can be said, was full of innocents. The second wave is full of dumbasses who wanted to protest with weapons/tactical gear about needing a haircut & manicure.
My daughter will be graduating as a medical assistant this summer, and she is not looking forward to dealing with the high level of stupidity she will be seeing in her clinic.
So how do we handle this second wave? You know, the one where the True Believers are sickened by a democratic hoax?
What are you reading now?
In my case, it's this:
A friend of my wife needed some computer help, and so I took care of her laptop for her. In return, she left me this to read.
The IRS put money into my account today, but it's not mine
OK- I'm expecting two different deposits from the US gov into my checking account:
1. $2,400 - My coronavirus "reward"
2. $10,400ish - my tax return for 2019
So I got a deposit for $1,300-ish in my account two days ago. It's nowhere close to either amount that I'm expecting. So I log into the IRS website, since it is the Oracle of All Governmental Knowledge right now. There, I discover that the IRS has no knowledge of this transfer. So I'm guessing that the IRS put somebody else's money into my account. That means that in the interest if fairness, some poor schmuck will be wondering "where's my money?" and thus, I must expect for those funds to exit my account at some point soon.
In the meantime, I'm waiting for not only my CV-19 reward, but my tax refund as well. Those funds would be very helpful right now. Oh yeah- my state is also considering renewing my unemployment since I've been enjoying the Trump Depression since April of 2019. We'll see how that goes. I have no hopes for that.
Senegalese engineering students fight coronavirus with inventions
There are some cool things being done by people in surprising places. The following article came from Al Jazeera.
Engineering students in Senegal have joined their country's fight against the coronavirus pandemic with inventions such as automatic sanitiser dispensers and medical robots.
The students attending a top engineering school in the capital, Dakar, have turned their technical skills towards easing pressure on the wards - and they are already in talks with hospitals over some of their innovations.
One example is a small robot, dubbed "Dr Car", which will be able to measure patients' blood pressure and temperature, according to students from Dakar's Ecole Superieure Polytechnique (ESP).
Trump dismantles environmental protections under cover of coronavirus
Nice long Op-Ed in the Guardian, excerpts below. (no paywall, but I support them)
My emphasis, not in the article. Pisses me off that this assclown can't abide any treaty that our government has forged with others. The UN agreed that there would be no mining on the moon and that was 1979!
The Trump administration is diligently weakening US environment protections even amid a global pandemic, continuing its rollback as the November election approaches.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, US federal agencies have eased fuel-efficiency standards for new cars; frozen rules for soot air pollution; proposed to drop review requirements for liquefied natural gas terminals; continued to lease public property to oil and gas companies; sought to speed up permitting for offshore fish farms; and advanced a proposal on mercury pollution from power plants that could make it easier for the government to conclude regulations are too costly to justify their benefits.
The government has also relaxed reporting rules for polluters during the pandemic.
Trumps ambitions reach even to the moon, which he has announced he wants the US to mine.
This douche has got to go.
January can't come soon enough.
First the Great Depression, and now the Trump Depression
Because nobody can give America a bigger or more beautiful depression than the Orange Weasel. He owns this now, spread it far and wide. The wonderful leader of the GOP who loves having his name on buildings, can now have his name go down in history for this financial meltdown.
Western WA weather
I'm west and north of Seattle--we are getting a great bit of lightning and thunder right now. Kinda fun, but about 8 hours after they said it would happen.
