I just bought a 2023 Tesla Model 3 for less than $30K

With local, state, and federal incentives at $11,500, the Model 3 comes in under $20K.
I added Blue and 10-inch wheels and still came in under $20K, as it accepted a discounted demo.

The average private vehicle in America costs around $48K, so MSRP on a Model 3 is well below that.
I looked at and test drove a Chevy Bolt EUV and it was blah, not fun to drive, not at all quick.
I have owned a Volt for years and loved it but needed a replacement.

The Model 3 is perfect for me and affordable, I never thought I'd own one.

Looks like this:

America's Big Lie: 'This is not who we are'

Here's a great read:

America's Big Lie: 'This is not who we are'

by Vernon Williams

The first thing folk want to claim when we find ourselves in the throes of some unfathomable tragedy is, “This is not us. We are better than this.” Well, if Americans really want to ever get a grip on problems plaguing this nation, the first thing required would be to stop living a lie.

Eight senseless killings in three Atlanta spas were followed only four days later by the soulless slaughter of 10 innocent people at a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado. Horrendous as those two incidents were alone, the gruesome truth is that they were only two of at least seven mass murders in the U.S. over about a one-week stretch. In Indianapolis, there have been two mass murders since the start of 2021, including one quadruple deadly assault only days before the Atlanta tragedy. An argument over a stimulus check led a 25-year-old man to shoot the mother of his child and kill four of her relatives, the youngest victim being only seven years old.

In Chicago, during the second weekend of March, there were a total of 40 shootings reported and four killed—including 15 shot and two fatalities at one location in the aftermath of an early-morning party in the 6700 block of South Chicago Avenue. The deadly trend this month is nationwide.

Over and over again after a shooting, leads spokespersons proclaim "This is not who we are".

When you have a gun and gun violence problem, the worst thing to claim is that there is not a problem.

Go ahead and search for the phrase "This is not who we are" + shooting.

Who best to fill Dianne Feinstein's Senate Seat?

Who do DUers think makes for the strongest candidate?

Barbara Lee just announced, third along with Katie Porter and Adam Schiff, so far.

Feinstein, 89, has been in the public eye for more than a half-century, notably since she became San Francisco’s leader after the 1978 assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk. In recent years, she has faced mounting questions about her mental acuity and her old-school brand of bipartisanship that is viewed as outdated in today’s bitterly divided era. These factors led Democrats to leap into the race to replace her before she announced her intentions — a move that would previously have been considered impolitic.

Rep. Katie Porter, 49, Democrat

Resume:
The Iowa native is an attorney and a protégé of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, whom Porter met while taking Warren’s bankruptcy law class at Harvard Law School. In 2011, Porter moved to California when she became a law professor at UC Irvine. The following year, then-California Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris appointed Porter to be the state’s independent monitor overseeing the state’s share of a $25-billion mortgage settlement with banks.

Rep. Adam B. Schiff, 62, Democrat

Resume:
Schiff was born in Massachusetts and moved with his family to Arizona and then California. He was the valedictorian of his 1978 graduating class at Monte Vista High School in Danville high school, where his classmates voted him most likely to succeed. After attending Stanford University and Harvard Law School, Schiff became a federal prosecutor. Among his most prominent cases was prosecuting an FBI agent who became a Russian spy.

Rep. Barbara Lee, 76, Democrat

Resume:
Lee has a deep history of political activism, dating back to when she was a college student at Mills College. She worked on the 1972 presidential campaign of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman to hold a seat in Congress, and on Black Panther Party co-founder Bobby Seale’s mayoral race in Oakland the following year.

President Biden coming to my town today, Santa Cruz County, CA

I live in Rio Del Mar at Seacliff State Beach, one of the hardest-hit areas of the Central Coast.
The president is coming later today, I've seen his entourage's aircraft flying along the coast and he'll be at my location this afternoon after stops in Watsonville and Capitola.

Are there any DUers in Santa Cruz or Monterey Counties?

WHEN will we learn what McCarthy gave away to the other insurrectionists?

I am just guessing, any informed opinions are welcome to reply!

I imagine some of the concessions will be revealed with the reading of the rules, like the "one vote needed for motion to vacate" rule.

But others will never be known or can only be inferred by looking at who needed favors and which insurrectionists get to chair the various committees.

Are any journalists or pundits working on this, or any DUers?

TIA

I'm witnessing the destruction of a wharf on the central coast, and other things.

Here in Santa Cruz County we are seeing epic wind, waves, and rain as part of the series of atmospheric rivers.

The Capitola and Santa Cruz piers have been damaged and will remain closed and two hundred feet of the wharf at Rio Del Mar is gone.

Ask me anything, I'm watching it from my workstation at home.

Watch the wharf collapse at the 15 seconds mark of this video:

Predictit had McCarthy at just 41 cents to win right now.

I love following this page and had it running 24/7 during the tight senate races.

Betters are pretty good indicators of outcomes, it seems. I would love to see Jeffreys numbers higher.

Link to the official "Medicare and You 2023", recommended!

My wife and I are just back from a two hour meeting with our local HICAP office.
HICAP (the Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program) is, I think, unique to California, a non profit organization with offices in each county.
I suspect each state has a different Medicare "Navigator" program.

They explained the various Medicare parts, then got into the differences between Medigap and Advantage plan forms of supplementing the missing parts, and did so without showing any bias.

Here is a link to the Medicare and You 2023 handbook, we were given a print copy.
https://www.medicare.gov/Pubs/pdf/10050-medicare-and-you.pdf

My wife and I are probably going to select a higher-end Medigap plan.

Warnock leads 64% to 36% with 12% of votes counted

I expect this to hold through the night.
