The Forwards... Ever Forwards Never Backwards

Fascists on the attack, we will fight them back!

Camo is NOT camo, and this is NOT to ...

... impress the POTUS PUTZUS.

Many years ago I participated in a high level review of a military space system. The review was conducted by a senior level civil servant in the pentagon procurement division. His position was the civil equivalent of a brigadier general. Everyone treated him with the deference and formal decorum due to that rank in the military.

He wore a suit and tie.

The military personnel on the review panel dressed in some sort of "dress uniform". They looked sharp, like in a parade, not a combat zone.

The military sponsor of the space system, who was not a part of the review, came by to give us a an introduction and overview of the system. She was a brigadier general. And yes, she was a she.

The Brigadier General wore combat boots and camo overalls with a few velcroed on patches.

Obviously she was not trying to evade the enemy by blending into the conference room office environment. What she was doing was conveying a message: I'm a warfighter. I take that seriously. We are engaged in a serious, literally deadly serious activity. You are to take me and what we are doing seriously and to remember that you are, if only temporarily, warfighters also.

The military is a disciplined, hierarchical and extremely mission focused organization. There is an awareness of the importance of symbolism to that ethos, and the importance of clothing to that symbolism. Camo is NOT just camo. It says something. It says I am a warfighter and I take that very seriously. And it says l expect you to also.

What goes on in the the wine cave...

....stays in the wine cave?

Sen. Elizabeth Warren ask[ed] darkly what the “closed-door” dinner conversation among us “billionaires” was about. Allow me to lift the veil. South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg took questions for about an hour before departing (from what I could see, without so much as a sip of the prized wine). A physician asked what the mayor would do to expand access to primary care for the uninsured. A woman across the table asked what he would do to extract us from seemingly endless military entanglements in Afghanistan and elsewhere. The college dean wanted to hear more about the mayor’s plans for higher education, including to reduce dropout rates. There was a question about the crisis of climate change.

Now that Bloomberg is in....

.... when will I be able to select him as my current first choice candidate preference?

Elijah Cummings, In Memoriam

Howard County, MD has a memorial book for Elijah Cummings in the lobby of the George Howard Building, the county office. If you live in the area, stop by and add your thoughts about this great public servant.

Like what? Vote for impeachment?

A majority of House Democrats — 134 of the 235 — endorse impeachment....

..... out of 435 members of the house. That would make 301 representatives against it.

So that's not going to work... Yet.

Trump's planned deportations are mainly for show. That's all.

These planned deportations.... are mainly for show. There are two main audiences. One is the nativists in Mr. Trump’s political base, who may have noticed that despite his huffing and puffing — and very likely partly because of it — undocumented migrants are entering the country at a rate unseen in more than a decade. .... The other audience is prospective migrants in Central America, whom the administration would like to deter by sending the message, with its deportation show of force, that trekking across the border is likely to be costly and ultimately fruitless.
