Dem Poll Shows Tea Partier Inching Ahead Of Sen. Cochran

A new poll by Democratic pollster Chism Strategies has found state Sen. Chris McDaniel (R-MS) just barely leading Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) in the Mississippi Republican Senate primary.

The new poll, obtained by TPM from a Democratic operative, found McDaniel leading Cochran, 46 percent to 44 percent among 813 likely Republican primary voters. Another 7.9 percent said they were undecided and a tiny 1.4 percent said they would vote for Republican Thomas Carey, who's also running in the primary. The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

Chism Strategies has done polling for former Rep. Travis Childers (D-MS), the expected Democratic nominee in the Senate race.

The poll's findings conflict with GOP pollster Harper Polling's latest poll on the race which showed Cochran leading McDaniel 45 percent to 40 percent.

Those polls are a rare pair of surveys that have come out since news broke that a pro-McDaniel political blogger was arrested for photographing Cochran's wife for an anti-Cochran video. McDaniel has been hit by a wave of questions about that break-in and any possible links his campaign has to the blogger, and the district attorney has said no one, including anyone from the McDaniel campaign, has yet been cleared in the investigation.

Sharyl Attkisson Wastes No Time Linking Jay Carney's Successor To Benghazi

Sharyl Attkisson, the investigative reporter who left CBS News earlier this year reportedly because of her frustrations with the network's perceived liberal bias, said Friday that the new face of the White House's press team stifled her efforts to get more information about the 2012 attack in Benghazi.

Almost immediately after President Obama announced that Josh Earnest would replace Jay Carney as White House press secretary, Attkisson reacted to the news on Twitter.

Attkisson's reporting on Benghazi and the Fast and Furious gun-running operation has made her a journalistic heroine on the right. She has continued to give fodder to conservatives since her resignation from CBS in March.

Last month, Attkisson said that CBS and other outlets are too "shy" to challenge the Obama administration and suggested that liberal watchdog Media Matters may have been paid to target her reporting.

GOP Senate Candidate Terri Lynn Land Overwhelmed By Reporters: 'I Can't Do This'

Terri Lynn Land, the Republican candidate running for Senate in Michigan, walked into a scrum of inquiring reporters at a forum on Wednesday and didn't like what she saw.

"I can’t do this. I talk with my hands," she said, with an expression the Detroit Free Press described as "slightly panicked and clearly uncomfortable."

The former Michigan secretary of state is running against Democratic Rep. Gary Peters, who also spoke at the forum on Mackinac Island, to replace retiring Sen. Carl Levin (D).

Peppered with questions about whether she would have supported a federal bailout of General Motors and Chrysler, manufacturing giants based in her state, Land dodged.

"I support the autoworkers. I’m glad the autos are doing well," she said repeatedly.

President Barack Obama recently called Land out for defending "the gender gap in pay as a result of women’s choices."

Tom Corbett Met With Jerry Sandusky Investigator Examining His Handling Of Sex Abuse Case

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Gov. Tom Corbett has met with a special prosecutor investigating his handling of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case while he was attorney general and why it took so long to bring charges against the former Penn State assistant football coach.

The Republican governor's communications director, Lynn Lawson, told The Associated Press on Friday that the meeting was earlier this week, but she declined to disclose other details.

The investigation into how the Sandusky case was handled has its roots in Kathleen Kane's successful 2012 campaign to become the first Democrat and the first woman to be elected Pennsylvania's attorney general. During the campaign, she repeatedly questioned why it took nearly three years for charges to be filed against Sandusky.

In February 2013, Kane appointed Widener Law School professor and former federal prosecutor Geoff Moulton to lead an investigation. Moulton did not return a phone message, and Kane's spokesman declined to address Corbett's interview.

CA: District addresses Oakland school officer attack on student in wheelchair

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Unified School District on Thursday said it has fired an Oakland High School resource officer who is also facing a criminal charge after he slapped and dumped a student out of his wheelchair.

"We as a district apologize to the family of the victim," said Oakland Unified School District spokesman Troy Flint.

Flint said on May 19th at 9 a.m., two school officers were urging students running late to get to their classrooms. He said some of the students including one in a wheelchair, a teen named Francisco Martinez, continued to linger in the hallway.

After more failed attempts, Flint said school officer Marchell Mitchell grabbed the handles of the wheelchair and began to push Martinez toward class. Flint said Martinez objected and began to slap the officer's hands.

Flint said the officer responded by handcuffing Martinez and then attacking him.

"He then responded in an extremely emotional manner, basically by snapping and punching the student several times and dumping him out of his wheelchair and onto the floor," explained Flint

Idiocracy: Oklahoma Gun Range Awarded Liquor License

You'll be able to get a shot and a beer for real after an Oklahoma City gun range was granted a liquor license this week, much to the distress of some city leaders.

But it'll have to be in that order: a (gun) shot and then a beer, not the other way around.

As part of its petition to win the liquor license, the Range Cafe at Wilshire Gun Range promised that once a customer buys any alcoholic beverage, the sales register will bar him or her from the gun range itself. (Riiiighhhtt)

"Guns and alcohol will never mix at Wilshire Gun," General Manager Jeff Swanson told NBC station KFOR of Oklahoma City after the City Council voted 6-3 to approve the controversial license Tuesday.

"Once you have a drink, your driver's license will be scanned and then red-flagged, and you'll be prohibited from entering the lanes for the rest of the day," Swanson said.

California GOPer Sent Out Pro-Gun Robocall Day After Massacre

A day after a horrific massacre in California that left seven people dead, voters outside Los Angeles received a robocall from the congressional campaign for Republican Tony Strickland talking about his pro-gun stance along with his backing from the National Rifle Association and other gun groups.

According to Strickland campaign spokesman Evan Handy, the robocall was scheduled before Friday's shooting spree and stabbings.

"Our thoughts and prayers to out to the families and victims of this tragedy," Strickland spokesman Evan Handy told The Huffington Post.

Miss. Judge Allegedly Struck, Yelled Slur At Mentally Disabled Black Man

A Mississippi judge allegedly slapped a young mentally disabled black man earlier this month at a flea market and yelled "run, n----, run," the Jackson Clarion-Ledger reported Sunday.

The family of Eric Rivers, 20, filed a complaint against Madison County Justice Court Judge Bill Weisenberger, who is white, accusing him of striking Rivers at the market on May 8 in Canton, Miss.

"This is 2014, not 1960, where someone could slap a young man and call out, 'Run, n-----, run,'" former Canton Mayor William Truly, now president of the Canton branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, told the Clarion-Ledger.

An apparent witness, Tammy Westbrook, told the newspaper Rivers was offering to help flea market vendors unload their goods when Weisenberger slapped him twice, then yelled "run, n----, run" as he fled. Westbrook and her sister, a vendor at the flea market, recalled that they thought Weisenberger was a law enforcement officer because he was wearing a security guard's uniform.

Weisenberger did not respond to the Clarion-Ledger's requests for comment.

American preacher: Girls should be obedient to men and not be allowed to excel in sports.

2. Teach her strict obedience. Other chapters stress the fact that obedience is the most necessary ingredient to be required from the child. This is especially true in the life of a girl, for she must be obedient all of her life. The boy who is obedient to his mother and father will someday become the head of the home; not so for the girl. Whereas the boy is being trained to be a leader, the girl is being trained to be a follower. Hence, obedience is far more important to her, for she must someday transfer it from her parents to her husband.

3. She should not be allowed to play alone with boys. The parents should see to it that she plays with other girls. This is important for many reasons. She should play only with toys that are uniquely for girls. This, by all means, should include dolls, doll clothes, housecleaning equipment, dishes, pots and pans, etc. She should participate in sports enough to become coordinated but she should not excel in sports. If later she marries a man who is very athletic, she could become more proficient in some particular sport that he enjoys, but if she becomes an expert in a sport that is usually associated with men and boys, it could prove embarrassing to her future husband, and for that matter, it could entice her to become more masculine than she ought to be.

12. Teach her to plan for a profession but to hope that it will not be needed. Mothers and fathers should teach their daughters to train for some kind of profession that is always in demand. There is always the possibility that the daughter will never marry or that she will become a widow with children to rear and will not remarry. Because of this she should plan to pursue some profession that will enable her to support herself and her children in any eventuality. She should be taught that if possible, she should not follow this profession when married. This gives her a dependence, if the opportunity arises to be dependent, but an independence if needed. There are many professions that a young lady could pursue such as that of a school teacher, beautician, secretary, nurse, etc.
