Consent for organ donation switches from opt-in to “soft opt-out” in Wales from Tuesday. The Labour-led Welsh government claims the law change could lead to a 25% increase in the number of organs available.

It is the first such move in the UK, and has been warmly welcomed by patients waiting for lifesaving procedures. But critics, including the Welsh Conservatives and the Church in Wales remain sceptical, arguing that the new system could be confusing, may alienate relatives of potential donors and even tarnish the image of organ donation.

Under the “deemed consent” system, people aged 18 and over who have lived in Wales for more than 12 months and who die in the country will be regarded as having consented to organ donation unless they have opted out.

To opt out, people can add their name to a register by phone or online. Those who wish to register a positive decision to opt in can still do so.

Katrina Pierson, the national spokeswoman for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, collected at least $11,000 in unemployment benefits while she was still working.

Pierson received these benefits from the Texas Workforce Commission between January 2012 and November 2013. At the same time she received this government money, Pierson was working as a consultant for Ted Cruz’s campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Receiving unemployment benefits while she was still working would seem to go against the grain of the message being pushed by Trump and the Republican Party, who have often been quick to blame minorities and immigrants for being on the government dole, supposedly taking up resources that should be going to white Americans (in reality, whites are the most likely to receive welfare benefits).

The spokeswoman, who recently made news in a CNN appearance where she wore a necklace made out of bullets and promised to wear one stylized like fetuses after gun violence prevention advocates called her out, also had an arrest for shoplifting. She stole clothing from a JC Penney store in Plano, Texas. She had her child with her.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has opened an investigation into Blue Bell Creameries, CBS News reported Tuesday. Attorneys from DOJ’s Consumer Protection Branch, the same unit that prosecuted Peanut Corporation of America executives, was reported to be in charge of the probe. The investigation is being lead by Patrick Hearn, the USAA who prosecuted the executives of the Peanut Corporation of America.

Blue Bell earlier this year was linked to a Listeria outbreak that resulted in three deaths. The company shutdown all three of its production facilities and recalled its regionally popular ice cream. It has only recently been returning to the market on a staged basis.

The food safety investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found Blue Bell’s Listeria contamination was reported to company officials as early as 2013 along with other in-plant sanitation problems, including water getting into production facilities.

The challenge for the federal criminal investigation is to determine what Bell Blue executives actually knew and when they knew it. Stewart Parnell, PCA’s executive officer, sent emails with orders to “just ship em” when he knew peanut products were contaminated with Salmonella. Parnell was sentenced to 28 years in prison, and his peanut broker brother was sentenced to 20 years.

Blue Bell has not responded to reports of the criminal inquiry. Blue Bell manufactures ice cream in as many as 60 flavors in Alabama, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Microsoft Corp said on Wednesday it will begin warning users of its Outlook.com email service when the company suspects that a government has been trying to hack into their accounts.

Microsoft told Reuters about the plan in a statement. It comes nine days after Reuters asked the company why it had decided not tell victims of a hacking campaign, discovered in 2011, that had targeted international leaders of China's Tibetan and Uighur minorities in particular.

According to two former employees of Microsoft, the company's own experts had concluded several years ago that Chinese authorities had been behind the campaign but the company did not pass on that information to users of its Hotmail service, which is now called Outlook.com.

In its statement, Microsoft said neither it nor the U.S. government could pinpoint the sources of the hacking attacks and that they didn't come from a single country.
For two years, Microsoft has offered alerts about potential security breaches without specifying the likely suspect. In the statement, Microsoft said: "As the threat landscape has evolved our approach has too, and we’ll now go beyond notification and guidance to specify if we reasonably believe the attacker is 'state-sponsored'."

TRENTON, N.J. -- KaloBios, the Bay Area biotech company run by Martin Shkreli, the reviled drug price-gouger charged with securities fraud last week, was informed Wednesday that its stock will be delisted by Nasdaq because of Shkreli's arrest and other issues.

KaloBios Pharmaceuticals also is dealing with the abrupt resignation of its accounting firm and a void left by its firing of Shkreli.

KaloBios was running out of money and planning to suspend its research programs and shut down operations in November. That's when Shkreli, the CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, swooped in and gained controlling interest of KaloBios stock. Shkreli was immediately named chief executive officer and chairman of the board of the South San Francisco drug developer.

In a statement Wednesday, KaloBios said that Nasdaq wrote that it will be removed from trading on Dec. 30 if KaloBios doesn't appeal. The company has not yet decided whether it will appeal.

Nasdaq cited reasons for the delisting including the indictment and arrest of both Shkreli and an outside attorney for KaloBios, Evan Greebel, plus the company's noncompliance with Nasdaq financial reporting rules. KaloBios has not filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission a report on its financial results for the three months ended Sept. 30, as publicly traded companies are required to do every three months.
