People's prejudices go sooooooo deep, even in the best of people.

White liberal people who grew up trusting the police,
who remember when police were good for the neighborhood,
and who haven't stayed in touch enough outside their
own worlds to see what has actually happened and is
happening. They naturally sympathize with the young
white cop who appears to have been bruised and
terrified.

White liberal people who have probably had only one or
two nice black people in their lives, but no real exposure
to an African American community, or the realities of urban
life -- but into whose consciousness has filtered years and
years of fear of young black men, especially on a dark street.

So much of the discussion is coming from kneejerk &
biased point of view. It's not our fault. We only can see
what we can see. But we always have the opportunity to
try and see more. In more directions, also: to try and
see what others are seeing. Facts are made up of one
gazillion perspectives. We can be learning from each
other, all the time.

The Rolex Caliph’s Camel Selfie: How Iraqi Youth are Ridiculing Daesh/ISIL Online

The Rolex Caliph’s Camel Selfie: How Iraqi Youth are Ridiculing Daesh/ISIL Online

The extremist Islamic State group has been very effective on social media, terrifying their enemies and boosting their own prestige. Now a new group of keyboard warriors are fighting back. They come via the Twitter website and they’re well armed with jokes about goats and donkeys and some funny names. But their ambitions are deadly serious: to take social media back from the extremists and discourage would-be jihadis from joining the group.
...

And many have already asked how best to counter that kind of propaganda, particularly on social media, where a legion of the group’s fans disseminates their messages. Over the past few months an unlikely new force has emerged online with their own answer to that question. And they go by some fairly odd, somewhat tasteless, almost superhero-esque names – the likes of Abu al-Kababi Fatassi, Caliph al-Rolexi, the Gay Caliph and Ms Jihadi among others. Because while some actors have found that parody videos and songs best suit their needs to make light of the IS group’s terror tactics – there are YouTube clips from Palestine and even an Iraqi Kurdish television skit as well as a fake Jihadi Vogue magazine – this particular group of anti-IS keyboard warriors exists largely on the social media network, Twitter.

The aforementioned funny names are behind a number of humorous Twitter accounts that continuously post jokes that take the mickey out of the IS group. Some of the earliest of these accounts were online in early June, shortly after the IS group entered Mosul. But over the past few months numbers have increased substantially. There are dozens now, some more prominent and active than others. There are also at least two Twitter accounts run by the US government – one is called ISIS Fake, a parody account supposedly run by the CIA and the other is the more serious Think Again Turn Away account run by the US State Department. But behind almost all of the other parody accounts are private individuals.
“In the beginning it was a way to discharge my anger by mocking their stupidity,” says one of the owners of an IS parody account who wished to be known only by his Twitter handle, ISIS Media. “Then I noticed that it can be used for a more serious, better cause. The biggest weapon of ISIS is propaganda and they can’t stand effective counter-propaganda. I wanted to show how stupid ISIS is and what a stupid idea it is to join them for jihad.”

Some brilliant screenwriters and millionaire liberals ought to make the movie.

Tell a story of how the evil one percent's greed united all the
little people -- from the far right to the far left, east & west,
north & south. The story of how they rallied, and succeeded
in making America great again. All sorts of revolutions and
corporations falling greedy people losing haters being sucked
into the ground and the Little People WIN.

I have no idea how, but I know there are lots of brilliant
writers and thinkers out there. Movies can have a profound
social effect, or at the very least, can plant seeds of ideas.

one big difference unless it's my imagination between rail and pipeline

You can get a leak in a pipeline that goes on for years and
years undetected until one day you are taking a bath and
light a smoke and BOOM.

Now I realize that's hyperbole; of course you would taste
or smell something funny sooner. But probably not until
you had been drinking cooking and bathing in it for months.

A train accident is terrible and can be catastrophic of
course in a different way. But the danger is not hidden,
and the causes are not disputable.

November 15, 2014

ABSOLUTELY NO.

I hate to have these horrible thoughts but there it
is; I do. I wish ill upon those who poison our planet.

May all of those who vote for this pipeline wake up
sick to death from the poisons they so love. May they
have flammable bath water, and inexplicable pox.

They think a little poison here, a little poison there,
no big deal because AMERICA! Yet a sizable portion of
humanity currently is ill from these toxins. Many have
lived their whole lives with environmentally caused,
crippling autoimmune disorders, cancers, and brain
disorders manifesting as mental illness.

Just as soldiers in Vietnam knew the agent orange
had made them sick -- these commercial poisons are
increasingly implicated in cancers, hormone dysfunction,
miscarriages and birth defects, autism spectrum, CFIDS
et al. And that's only the human population. All the
creatures who depend in the wild on air land and water..
poisoned. This can not go on.

Merle Haggard: ‘It’s Almost Criminal What They Do With Our President’

http://tasteofcountry.com/merle-haggard-president-obama/?trackback=tsmclip

After being honored at the White House for his lifetime achievements in the performing arts and outstanding contributions to American culture, Merle Haggard is forming an opinion about President Barack Obama based on character, not political agenda. The 73-year-old country legend, who has actually visited the White House as a guest of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan in years past, made an appearance in Washington D.C. for the 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors. While there, he mingled with the President, the President’s wife and several other notable honorees.

“It was also nice to meet Obama and find him very different from the media makeout. It’s really almost criminal what they [the media] do with our President,” Haggard tells Rolling Stone. “There seems to be no shame or anything. They call him all kinds of names all day long, saying he’s doing certain things that he’s not. It’s just a big old political game that I don’t want to be part of. There are people spending their lives putting him down.”

“I’m sure some of it’s true and some of it’s not,” he continues. “I was very surprised to find the man very humble and he had a nice handshake. His wife was very cordial to the guests and especially me. They made a special effort to make me feel welcome. It was not at all the way the media described him to be.”

“He’s not conceited,” he adds. “He’s very humble about being the President of the United States, especially in comparison to some presidents we’ve had who come across like they don’t need anybody’s help. I think he knows he’s in over his head. Anybody with any sense who takes that job and thinks they can handle it must be an idiot.”
