I keep getting malware from DU.

Every time I log in, and try to post something, I get a nasty McAfee ad, or or some pop up telling to call an 877 number to clean a virus off my Windows machine. Except I run macs, only.

Anyone else having this problem?

Illinois decriminalized Marijuana!

Source: MPP Marijuana Policy Project

This afternoon, Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) signed MPP’s bill decriminalizing possession of up to 10 grams of marijuana, making Illinois the 21st state to stop jailing marijuana consumers.

This is just the latest victory in the most ambitious year yet for rolling back marijuana prohibition …

More than 20 legislatures have already improved their states’ marijuana policies this year, and voters in as many as 10 more states will vote on sensible marijuana initiatives this November.

Great news. No more jail terms for pot.

This will probably lead to letting a lot of people out of prison, too.

Voting Rights

Reading the wonderful decision from North Carolina, I was struck by how powerful a functioning court needs to be in a democracy. Four victories on voting rights over a couple of weeks. Little chance that they will appeal, especially given the type of smack-down they received, Would the Supremes will reverse any of those decisions? Not with a 4-4 tie.

So, we have a supreme court that is weakened by the GOP deliberately. And it has become toothless to support the tears, rents, attacks, and erosion of our rights and our constitution. Et tu, GOP.

I am wondering if this is some subconscious payback for Citizens United and Gore v. Bush. Maybe the appellate courts felt guilty about the harm caused by those decisions, and they decided (internally) to right the wrongs that have been and still will be committed by ALEC, the Kochs, and the Tea Baggers.

The convention last night has me depressed.

Why?

Because, frankly, I do not know how the campaign can top it. Every keynoter kicked ass. Every single one. How could anyone top it?

Comparing what we saw last night with the RNC's first night isn't like comparing apples and oranges. It is like comparing peaches and rotting entrails.

Proof the convention is toxic and contagious

Here is today's Chicago Suntimes - Lynn Sweet

http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/sweet-gop-revokes-delegate-credentials-racist-fb-post/

CLEVELAND – The Illinois Republican Party on Wednesday revoked the convention credentials of a Donald Trump delegate from Chicago “for publicly-made racist comments and threats of violence” on a Facebook posting.

Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider told the Sun-Times the party, “has zero tolerance for racism of any kind and threats of violence against anyone.”

The executive committee of the Illinois GOP party made the decision regarding Fifth Congressional District delegate Lori Gayne after party officials said she confirmed to them she was the author of the offending post, made under a different name.

Gayne was elected a Trump delegate in the March Illinois Republican Primary from the North Side district.

Gayne told the Sun-Times on Wednesday she wrote the post, after a reporter from the newspaper raised the matter with her on Tuesday evening, while she was with the Illinois delegation on the convention floor.

What really surprised me was that they threw her ass out.

This does prove that the anger, hatred, and racism that are so obvious in Cleveland are having an impact on the convention attendees. They are feeling empowered to be even bigger assholes than they started off as. RUbbing elbows with so many other nuts has to do bad things to people's grasp on reality.

My only question is whether they will revert back to being mini-assholes when they go home, or whether their racism, hatred and anger will infect others back home.

Trump on Melanoma's speech:

"It was a beautiful, beautiful speech. She's gonna make a beautiful First Lady, just beautiful. She's bright and smart, and beautiful. And frankly, all those who complain about her choice of words? It was an improvement on the original. She's making America Proud again! Just a great speech!"

"Wait til you hear Don Jr's speech tomorrow. I read his rough draft. Just fantastic. Brilliant. He will make a fantastic First Son. It starts, 'Fore Score and Seven Years ago.' It gets better after that. Imagine golf and imagine Don Jr. as Secretary of the Supreme Court and Legal Stuff."

"Tomorrow I will announce the rest of my cabinet. Ivanka will be Secretary of Trade and Design, because she has her mother's good taste. She will be just great in her job to Make America Rich again. Steve King - you remember him? He's that congressman from New Jersey and I can't wait to see what he does as Secretary of Immigration and Muslims. And there is a spot of Chris Christie. He will be Secretary of Libel and Slander, because the lazy, lazy media keeps getting things wrong. Very Wrong. It's disgusting. We need a Secretary who can fix those laws and Christie is just the guy to do it."

Mitch McConnell LOST the vote and Rince Prebus just ignored the Nays

He tried to have an oral vote on selecting McConnell as temporary chair. The Yeas were few, the Nays louder. Prebus was not having any part of it.
