Global anti-fracking alliance forming

http://www.theorganicview.com/environment/the-battle-to-prevent-fracking-in-the-karoo/

A bridge has been built between the United States and South Africa in the global anti-fracking movement. This according to US actor Mark Ruffalo, who revealed that anti-fracking lobby group Water Defense and South African Treasure Karoo Action Group (TKAG) have formalized their relationship. Mr. Ruffalo confirmed that he had accepted a position on the board of TKAG and that TKAG chairman, Jonathan Deal would join the board of Water Defense.

Water Defense connects the dots between the movements working to stop mountain top removal, hydro fracking, tar sands mining, and other destructive practices that threaten our dwindling global supply of clean water. Founded by actor Mark Ruffalo, Water Defense engages renowned cultural figures, produces educational events, and informs the public, through traditional and social media to raise awareness, drive policy change, and end our fossil fuel addiction by demanding sustainable solutions.

Report: FBI Afraid Occupy L.A. Movement Would Join With 'Violent' Citizens Upset About Jail Abuses

http://laist.com/2012/12/30/occupy_the_ports_1.php

New documents released this week shed light how the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, local law enforcement agencies and the private sector worked together to thoroughly monitor and then ultimately crack down on the Occupy movement since September 2011.

The nonprofit Partnership For Civil Justice Fund obtained redacted documents through a FOIA request. The group's executive director Mara Verheyden-Hilliard said in a statement, "These documents show that the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are treating protests against the corporate and banking structure of America as potential criminal and terrorist activity."

We took a look at some of the documents that dealt with local groups affiliated with the Occupy Wall Street movement.

The FBI took note of the disturbing reports that sheriff's deputies were beating inmates at the county (p 72). In this report, however, the FBI's concern wasn't about the inmates, but how news reports of these beatings could be riling up citizens who were riding public transit.

Note that last year with Occupy the Rose Parade, all networks switched off their coverage before Occupy began to march. Also, that Wells Fargo were the sponsor of the parade that year...them and their foreclosure fraud and massive investment in private, for-profit prison companies.

And of course, now with the news that

Big Banks and FBI worked together vs Occupy

understanding is perfect. Love me some Occupy Fights Foreclosures!

“Occupy FIGHTS FORECLOSURES” marches in the 2013 rose parade to send a loud message to the big banks who bankroll this parade

LOS ANGELES –December 31, 2012 -- Wells Fargo and many other big banks sponsoring the Rose Parade are guilty of grossly inflating the value of homes, originating fraudulent loans, illegally foreclosing on homes, and falsifying IRS tax forms. Bank of America and Wells Fargo are among the largest Mortgage Lenders in the country and thousands, if not tens of thousands, have fallen victim to its mortgage practices and those of other banks who, in sponsoring this parade, hope to come out “smelling like a rose.”

"We at Occupy Fights Foreclosures have chosen to take a stand against the illegal practices of these lenders -- instead we stand with homeowners fighting to keep their homes. It has been estimated that approximately 4 million foreclosures are slated for 2013.
As we step into a new year, we also welcome the new Homeowner’s Bill of Rights-a new tool in helping homeowners fight back against the fraud. Occupy Fights Foreclosures was on hand to help in getting that bill to pass, and we will be on hand to help with the implementation to help the thousands of families who have been left alone without representation in this foreclosure fiasco.

“Occupy Fights Foreclosures” will be there among all the floats sponsored by the Banking Communities outlining themselves as an indispensible part of the community. Their unofficial float in the Rose Parade will serve as a reminder to the thousands of homeowners who are holding on to their homes that they are not alone, and it will serve as a reminder to the banks of the thousands of homeless families that they have removed from their homes leaving them displaced. They’re fed up with these banks stealing the American Dream.

Occupy Fights Foreclosures, is dedicated to end the bank abuse against homeowners, the families, and the communities in which they live. "I have worked closely with dozens of home owners. I have seen widespread abuse by financial institutions that continue their financial terrorism against working families," says Carlos Marroquin, "Unless we resist, abuses will continue."

Occupy Fights Foreclosures denounces the OCC’s handling of Independent Foreclosure Review Program

OCCUPY FIGHTS FORECLOSURES DEMANDS THE OCC EXTEND ITS APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR INDEPENDENT FORECLOSURE REVIEW

LOS ANGELES - December 30, 2012 —The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has failed those who have been financially devastated due to wrongful foreclosures by mortgage lenders and servicers.

The Independent Foreclosure Review process announced in April, 2011 grew out of an OCC enforcement action against the abusive mortgage lending and foreclosure practices of the 14 largest banks and servicers. In order to be considered for financial compensation following the loss of their home, applicants were to complete a report with details about how the bank handled their foreclosure process.

With the December 31st deadline looming, Occupy Fights Foreclosures argues the OCC did not properly notify the public and advertise the program. Many homeowners had no idea that the review process was available to them even though these homeowners were desperately working with government agencies, law firms, and community advocacy groups to recover some of their losses. Why hadn’t the OCC properly publicized the program to reach people who had lost their homes?

The review process is also inherently discriminatory. The applicant must print out the form from an internet website, which makes access to the review impossible for those who lack the resources for computer access.

Given the OCC’s mishandling of the Independent Foreclosure Review program, Occupy Fights Foreclosures requests that the application deadline be extended and that the OCC address the other problems of access explained above.

The Occupy movement will be making a repeat appearance at the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade, organizers and police said Monday.

A 15-foot-high float, with "Mr. Monopoly" riding a red wagon, will wheel its way down the 5.5-mile route at the conclusion of the parade, organizers said. The board game character, intended to represent bankers, will have strings attached to participants who are on the verge of losing their homes or have lost their homes to foreclosure.

"It symbolizes the grip the banks have on individual homeowners," said Carlos Marroquin, an organizer with Occupy Fights Foreclosures. "We're protesting the foreclosure practices that continue to hurt millions of families."

Idle No More: Alberta Highway 63 Blockade Near Fort McMurray By First Nations Movement

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/12/20/idle-no-more_n_2340893.html

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. - The leader of an aboriginal community near the Alberta oilsands says the federal government is clearing the way for development on traditional land.

Chief Alan Adam of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation says Ottawa's omnibus budget legislation weakens environmental protection in Canada.

He says oilsands projects have already sullied rivers and lakes in the area and the budget bill — quote — "gives the green light to destroy the rest."

Adam's comments came as he joined a highway blockade north of Fort McMurray that was part of the aboriginal Idle No More movement.

Top Obama Environmental Official Departs “Frustrated” Over Pipeline, Inaction On Climate

President Obama's chief environmental official departed in part over her opposition to a controversial plan to pipe oil from Canadian tar sands to Texas refineries, two sources familiar with the situation told BuzzFeed Thursday.

Environmental Protection Administration Administrator Lisa Jackson, who had served as New Jersey's top environmental official, had been handed a far less ambitious agenda on issues surrounding climate change after opposition from states reliant on burning coal for electricity proved a damaging political issue for Democrats in 2010. The pipeline project, bitterly opposed by environmental activists, was one of environmentalists' largest disappointments.

Jackson "left as a matter of conscience," said Jeff Tittel, the director of New Jersey's Sierra Club chapter and a longtime friend of Jackson's. The EPA Administrator "has too much principle to support [the pipeline], between the climate impacts of it and the water quality impacts of it."

President Obama initially delayed Keystone's progress, but this March authorized the construction of its Southern portion over howls from his former allies in the movement to stop carbon emissions.

Connecting the Constitutional Dots of #IdleNoMore for the White (like me) Layperson

http://behindthehedge.wordpress.com/2012/12/11/connecting-the-constitutional-dots-of-idlenomore-for-the-white-like-me-layperson/

via Occupy Calgary.

In 1763, King George III of the United Kingdom issued a royal proclamation as an initial statement of British law and policy concerning it’s territory in the New World, both the old British Colonies along the Atlantic Coast and the newly conquered lands of New France. Remember the Plains of Abraham? Also, the Royal Proclamation declared clearly the Crown’s understanding of the status of the aboriginal people of the New World. To be clear, the Royal Proclamation is a statement of Canadian Constitutional law which remains in force today, both on its own and through the Constitution Act (1982).

The Royal Proclamation is the legal reason that Quebec continues to have a distinct Constitutional position as a Nation within Canada and as a Nation with distinct, constitutionally guaranteed legal institutions.

The First Nations are very clearly described in the Royal Proclamation as “Nations” and British Subjects are told that the people of these Nations are “not [to] be molested or disturbed in the Possession of the lands (the vast majority of the continent)] not having been ceded to Us”.
