For those of you who know YouPic, today (August 18, 2019) they awarded this photo an inspiration star!
I've decided to learn how to shoot in raw.
I would really appreciate any suggestions you smart folks could give me on which software I could use to get the best results.
Or are there any good books on the subject?
For those of you who shoot in raw, where did you start?
TIA!

Pete Buttigieg's Only Problem with Black Voters is They Don't Know Who He Is
http://cnu.edu/wasoncenter/2019/08/08-buttigieg-favorability/?fbclid=IwAR0E_OS3smYM7ADRGYKs0jlC0XhNdcOLBu9pmLj7CaLz9LP-K6G39P3zBUMFrom the Judy Ford Wason Center for Public Policy
Heading into the final stretch of summer pundits continue to marvel at Joe Bidens continued primacy in the Democratic primary polls. Bidens robust support among black voters is often cited as one of the main drivers behind his continued frontrunner status. Pundits usually discount the ability of his main opponents, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Pete Buttigieg, to overtake him based on their lackluster performance among this key constituency of the Democratic Party.
At the end of July, when Monmouth University released their latest South Carolina poll Biden lead the horserace with 39% of the vote, including the support of 51% of blacks respondents. No other candidate came close to challenging Biden. In terms of support among black voters, Buttigieg carried just 1%, Warren 2%, and Harris 12%. The numbers are so overwhelming and have changed so little since Monmouths poll at the beginning of July, it is easy to understand why pundits have come to the conclusion that the other Democratic candidates are failing to woo black voters. But the truth is, a sizable portion of the Democratic electorate has yet to tune into the primary, and this has profound impacts on polling data.
Pundits usually preface their assessment of primary polling data with the disclaimer that name recognition is an important driver of both Joe Bidens as well as Bernie Sanders leads in the polls at this point in the process. But few truly comprehend just how profound an impact name recognition, combined with low interest and low participation rates, has on early polling data.
A common misconception is that name recognition can be adequately controlled for. Analysts have a strong incentive to find a way to compare low and high name ID candidates because failing to do so severely limits the use of early polling data. In the case of the massive 2020 Democratic field, we have 2 well-known, nationally recognized candidates and 21 obscure candidates virtually unknown outside their own states. Just 1% of potential Democratic primary voters fail to identify Joe Biden in Morning Consult's Tracking Data,
compared to 7% for Bernie Sanders because Sanders was the runner-up in last cycles primary and Biden was Vice President for 8 years under Obama.
The rest at the link. Yes, it's long, but well worth reading.
My Neighbors Are Voting For Trump...from the Texas Observer, from 2016. Still relevant!
https://www.texasobserver.org/east-texas-trump-voters-lansdale/?fbclid=IwAR1nuvMOIYXcQcuIHp-ivZ5aA26p5h60tQYh-6geEtct9m0lBKkKKR_Ozo8Its not because theyre stupid rednecks.
Voting for Trump is about being part of a large reality show. Really.
The general view of the non-Trump supporter is that those who have chosen to vote for him are rednecks with 12 teeth, six of them in their coat pocket, and its possible those teeth might be on loan from someone else. The majority of these Trump supporters are listed primarily as White Uneducated Voters, which is code for stupid redneck. The kind of folks who kept their first grade report card because theyre proud of the D they made in conduct. (I made a C.)
However, I know a large number of people who make good money, are well-educated, appear to have a dental plan, and yet, they too are voting for Trump. To me this is as baffling as trigonometry, which until recently I thought had to do with Roy Rogers horse.
Thing is, the support of Trump in Texas and I speak specifically of my region, East Texas goes beyond the smart and the not so smart, the educated and the uneducated. It is more a result of what I like to call the happily stupid; the ones who hold stupid views by choice, not due to lack of intelligence, but due to a kind of tribalism. Facts that interfere with their version of the world are there to be ignored. Its like putting a hat on a pig and insisting the porker is your Uncle Frank, contrary to all other evidence.
Trump has provided a dark, dank hole into which these folks can dump whatever it is theyre mad about. Even contradictory views, since Trump frequently changes viewpoint in midsentence, can happily nest there, swelling and breeding like poison fungus.
All of it at the link.
A follow-up email to the earlier one on gun control from Pete Buttigieg:
Peggy,
Yesterday, in the wake of the shootings in El Paso and Dayton, you heard from Pete about how our nation is under attack from white nationalist terrorists, helped by an unchecked gun lobby. If were serious about confronting this threat, we have to name it and act decisively to defeat it.
Thats why, today, Pete announced an action plan to take on gun violence and domestic, white nationalist terror in our nation: An Action Plan to Combat the National Threat Posed by Hate and the Gun Lobby.
Pete's plan has bold, innovative ideas -- but it doesn't stop there. Pete knows we need to build political power to enact and sustain new policy. This plan provides both, and we need supporters like you to read it and keep advocating for change.
Since Petes first message, nearly 17,000 of you called the Senate to demand common-sense gun legislation. This is a start, and we have to sustain our fight. Like Pete said this morning, the old politics of cut-and-paste condemnation and letting mass shootings fade from the headlines wont work -- we need a new approach. Heres what you can do now:
Keep calling your senators at 877-615-7198
Forward this message to your friends, family, and neighbors
Share the plan on Twitter to help us bring more Americans to this cause
By keeping up the pressure and demanding better, we can move past decades-old policy failures with a new approach -- and deliver the change our country so urgently needs.
Thank you,
Pete for America
