You start out in 1954 by saying, "n*gg*r, n*gg*r, n*gg*r, " By 1968 you can't say "n*gg*r" — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now (that) you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is (that) blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "n*gg*r, n*gg*r."

That deal is the Trade in Services Agreement, or TISA, currently being negotiated by 52 nations that together account for two-thirds of global GDP. Those nations are the United States, the 28 members of the European Union, and 23 other countries, including Turkey, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Pakistan, Taiwan, and Israel. According to WikiLeaks, TISA "is the largest component of the United States' strategic neoliberal 'trade' treaty triumvirate," which also includes the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the TransAtlantic Trade and Investment Pact (TTIP).
"Together, the three treaties form not only a new legal order shaped for transnational corporations, but a new economic 'grand enclosure,' which excludes China and all other BRICS countries," declared WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assangein a press statement. What's more, it adds, "[a]ll three treaties have been subject to stringent criticism for the lack of transparency and public consultation in their negotiation processes."
The texts published Wednesday cover everything from financial services to telecommunications to migrant labor protections.
"TISA is exposed as a developed countries' corporate wish lists for services which seeks to bypass resistance from the global South to this agenda inside the WTO, and to secure an agreement on services without confronting the continued inequities on agriculture, intellectual property, cotton subsidies, and many other issues."

Overall, the leak provides further evidence of how "a self-selected group of mainly rich countries" plans to "bypass other governments in the World Trade Organization (WTO) and rewrite its services agreement in the interests of their corporations," reads an expert analysis penned by University of Auckland law professor Jane Kelsey. "It also makes the new risks from TISA to governments' right to regulate in their national interest much clearer."

Michigan County Clerk Performs Marriages As County Judge Refuses
After the district judge in Midland County, Mich., decided to stop performing any marriages in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage, county clerk Ann Manary started performing the ceremonies herself.
"Our district court is no longer performing marriages," Manary told MLive.com. "I'm not sure exactly what he's thinking there."
District Judge Michael Carpenter decided earlier this week not to perform marriages because he says he's not required to by state statutes, according to the Midland Daily News.
Manary told MLive.com that she started granting marriage license applications to gay couples on Friday and that she has also performed a couple of ceremonies. She is the only person in the clerk's office permitted by state law to perform marriages, according to MLive.

BREAKING: Federal Judge: Alabama Judges Must Issue Same-Sex Marriage Licenses

A federal judge has issued an order directed at all probate judges in the state — who are responsible for issuing marriage licenses — that they can no longer decline to issue licenses to gay couples.
The order Tuesday morning from Judge Callie Granade is intended to resolve any lingering questions about what the officials are legally required to do.
It follows months of back-and-forth between state and federal judges. Confusion arose in February after Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, who has authored several letters against federal courts overturning gay marriage bans, issued an order telling probate judges not to give marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
