Behind the Aegis's Journal(African-American Group) Virtual reality project to bring Black Wall Street history to life
Looking through Agnes’ eyes, spectators will see a young love and life cut short. They will see a community burned to the ground, and Agnes with it, for reasons beyond her 14-year-old self.
Agnes isn’t real, never was, but she could have been. She is the story of 1921 Black Wall Street from the mouths of survivors, from witnesses, newspaper clippings and books.
Using virtual reality technology, the creators of Greenwood Avenue: Virtual Reality Experience aim to place viewers in Agnes’ shoes and bring the history of Black Wall Street back to life.

Greenwood, an economically prosperous but segregated black district in Tulsa, was nicknamed Black Wall Street by Booker T. Washington. Within a 14-hour period starting May 31, 1921, more than 1,000 white Tulsans, including members of the Ku Klux Klan, descended on Greenwood, looting, bombing and burning nearly the entire district to the ground.

Once completed, the full five-part series will be available Oct. 1 on YouTube VR. The Greenwood Cultural Center is also considering installing a dedicated virtual reality room where visitors can go to view the Greenwood Avenue: Virtual Reality Experience.

(Jewish Group) What is a "real" antisemite?
(THIS IS THE JEWISH GROUP! RESPECT!!)Antisemitism is a strange form of prejudice. Rather than denigrating Jews as inferior, it casts them as maliciously superior. It’s a bias that’s as popular on the left as it is on the right. And whereas leftist politics dictates that something is offensive if the persecuted group says it is, those who otherwise claim to be progressive have a disturbing tendency to insist that, actually, antisemitism isn’t really a problem at all.
This pattern has been recently exemplified by the UK Labour Party and its leader, Jeremy Corbyn. Earlier this year, Spectator magazine collected a list of 50 recent antisemitic incidents associated with the party, and barely a month goes by without someone in Labour making yet another prejudiced comment. Many of the offenders are still party members. Former London mayor Ken Livingstone said that a Jewish journalist was “just like a concentration camp guard” and that Adolf Hitler supported Zionism. Jackie Walker, former vice-chair of Corbyn-supporting organization Momentum, questioned why Jewish schools need security and complained that Holocaust Memorial Day wasn’t inclusive enough. Under Corbyn’s leadership, both received suspensions, but were not expelled from the party. Meanwhile, according to Walker, concerns about antisemitism within Labour are driven by Israel, the Tory party, and the right-wing press as a means to attack Corbyn.

“Usually, prejudices are discourses of inferiority: women are less capable than men, sexual minorities are deviant and sinful, racial minorities are less capable,” says Eric Heinze, a human rights law professor at Queen Mary University of London and consultant on antisemitism for the London-based Media Diversity Institute. “The most powerful forms of antisemitism, including those deployed by the Nazis and the Soviet Union, are just the opposite. It’s that Jews are too clever by half, too powerful. Historically, antisemitism is the very first conspiracy theory.”
Jewish people provide a convenient scapegoat for the world’s ills, and so antisemitism persecutes Jews by insisting that Jewish people are the persecutors. As existentialist philosopher Jean Paul Sartre wrote, “If the Jew did not exist, the anti-semite would invent him.”
The fact that Jewish people are often indistinguishable from a majority-white population further feeds conspiracy theories: Antisemitism is the fear of the outsider passing as insider, the suspicion and hatred of an invisible network pulling the strings. This dynamic is obvious in tropes about Jewish people controlling capitalism, the media, and Hollywood, and feeds into attempts to blame all Jews for the actions of the Israeli government. The narrative, which views Jews as oppressors to be overthrown, also makes it a better fit for left-wing politics than most other forms of discrimination. Hence antisemitism has been called the “fool’s socialism.”

Jewish Candidates Help Bolster Democratic Fundraising In Swing Districts
Mike Levin said small donations have paid off for him in a big way. The Southern California Democrat is part of a slew of swing-district candidates whose strong fundraising numbers experts consider an indicator the party has a shot of retaking the House of Representatives in November.
Levin, whose father is Jewish and whose Catholic mother emigrated from Mexico, is sitting on a war chest of $2.6 million, having outraised his Republican counterpart, Diane Harkey, by more than three to one. And he has the broad backing of over 100,000 small donors who gave an average of $26 each.
“I feel like we have a ton of momentum. No one is going to outwork us,” the candidate said on July 20.
Candidacies like Levin’s are an example of powerful Democratic voter enthusiasm that has some respected analysts saying they have a solid chance at flipping the House. However, Republicans have their own advantages, including huge infusions of cash into several super PACs — political committees that can raise unlimited amounts of money, but can’t coordinate with candidates — from mega-donors like Jewish casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, who gave $30 million to the GOP-linked Congressional Leadership Fund in May.
Levin is one of a crop of Democratic Jewish challengers in swing districts across the country who have significantly outraised their Republican counterparts, including several incumbents, in the last financial quarter, the Forward has found in a review of the latest crop of filings with the Federal Election Commission.

Cuba's new constitution paves way for same-sex marriage
Cuba is set to become the latest country in Latin America to approve gay marriage, after the National Assembly on Sunday signed off on a new constitution that defines marriage as “the consensual union of two people, regardless of gender”.
The new constitution, known as the Magna Carta – which also recognises private property for the first time since the Cold War – will be put to a referendum later this year.
The news was met with elation by the LGBTQ community, many of whom were hopeful but not certain the measure would pass.

Elsewhere in Latin America and the Caribbean, same-sex marriage is legal in Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and Colombia. But homosexuality remains a criminal offence in seven Caribbean island nations.

Don't Vote For Our Anti-Semitic Nominee, California Republican Party Says
The California Republican Party and its top statewide candidate are urging citizens in the 11th Congressional District not to vote for the party’s nominee because of his anti-Semitic statements and Holocaust denial.
John Fitzgerald was the only Republican running in the reliably-Democratic district’s all-party primary last month, earning himself just under 25% of the vote and advancing to November’s general election. Fitzgerald’s campaign website questions the Holocaust, criticizes “Jewish supremacism” and falsely claims that Jews played a “prominent role” in the African slave trade.
California does not allow write-in candidates in general elections, forcing Republican voters in the Bay Area’s eastern suburbs to choose in November between voting for Fitzgerald, his incumbent Democratic opponent Rep. Mark DeSaulnier or skipping the race entirely. Republican officials were clear when asked by the Forward: anything but the Holocaust denier.
“Voters will have to choose between not voting in the race and choosing the incumbent,” state party spokesperson Matt Fleming told the Forward. “We just ask that they don’t vote for John Fitzgerald.”

Doctors have been taught in the past that the cancer usually appeared first in spots on the legs and that the disease took a slow course of up to 10 years. But these recent cases have shown that it appears in one or more violet-colored spots anywhere on the body. The spots generally do not itch or cause other symptoms, often can be mistaken for bruises, sometimes appear as lumps and can turn brown after a period of time. The cancer often causes swollen lymph glands, and then kills by spreading throughout the body.
