Pennsylvania is the most outrageous state in the Union...

I've lived here 60 years, so I know what I'm talking about...

Where the hell else could you have an ex-Democratic governor tell the Republican nominee to spend more money in his state for advertising and that he shouldn't give up on Pennsylvanians? I mean, WTF?????

Link here. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/20120930_Rendell_s_advice_to_Mitt__Don_t_quit_on_Pa__voters.html

But that's not all. It's is the same guy who told Gore to concede early in the recount process when HE WAS THE HEAD OF THE DLC!!! Can you just imagine a Rethug doing that to his candidate? In your wildest dreams??

I can't fathom why MSNBC is paying this guy a fortune to opine when they already have that asshole Harold Ford, Jr. to sell out Democrats.

More reasons why PA is screwed up later today! Stay tuned....

Well I finally got an answer to an age-old question...

How can intelligent gay males vote Republican?

For many years I have treated a gentleman who is very bright and very well-respected. He and his partner live a wonderful lifestyle and hold down prestigious and interesting jobs for which they are not highly paid, but modestly compensated enough to achieve this level of American success. He was in my office today and of course we were talking about the election. My assumption was that he was a liberal Democrat since he had always espoused great sympathy and empathy for people who are characteristically downtrodden.

So I was utterly amazed that he informed me that although he was voting for Pres. Obama in this election, he had voted for John McCain in the previous selection with great enthusiasm. I could not hide my amazement, and so I asked him if I could ask him a "personal" question. That question of course Was "How can a gay man vote for a presidential candidate who represents a party which has done nothing but repress all minorities over the years including blacks, Hispanics, gays, and people of foreign extraction among many others?"

His answer was startling. This is essentially what he said to me: Bill Clinton she considered to be a very weak president with respect to foreign policy and blamed the 9/11 catastrophe largely on Clinton and his administration. He has been pleasantly surprised however, that Pres. Obama's administration has been so aggressive and forceful when it comes to foreign policy and was well pleased that he took out Osama bin Laden. He further stated that he is is not a one issue voter and he feels that America's position in the world it is of paramount importance and that all the other issues are secondary in fact distantly secondary. Then he added interestingly, that he felt that Romney was extremely weak and lack character which was the hallmark individuals such as McCain, both President Bush's and Pres. Reagan. (My jaw was hanging open as you can imagine by this time.)

I acknowledged his answer and then asked him "But you haven't answered my question. Don't you feel that the obvious disdain and repression of the rights of you your partner many of your friends and colleagues mitigates against the candidate from that party for president United States, since the president is considered titular leader of that party? Doesn't it equally bother you that the attempts of the party abrogate the civil rights and constitutional rights of many individuals in the United States who happen to disagree with that Party can act in such a way as to virtually permanently destroy any opportunity with you your family your friends might have to establish yourselves as individuals who are equal under the law?"

He retorted, "I must look at the greater good of the country rather than the good of the individuals."

So much for constitutional protection right?

At this point I figured I'd just better shut up before changes his mind and vote for Romney. This whole exchange amazed me. I know that I'm should be past amazement at this stage of my life But I suppose I equally surprised when I see African-American people on TV endorsing Republican candidates with vigor and vehemence. Oh well...

So I'm back from synagogue early b/c a member of my family is not feeling well.

We had a great speech from one of the congregants about the year in politics. You don't have to worry about Lower Merion, PA, going in the right direction: there was great laughter at "appropriate"times - this fellow is a senior trial lawyer who does this annually and is a Progressive in the best sense. Brilliant and terrific.

September 26, 2012

So here's a story, and then I have to go to synagogue...

So I see this hospital administrator whom I've known for thirty years and he tells me that there's a surgical group who has this huge guy who used to be in one of the intelligence branches of the Federal government who is their administrator/hatchet man. This guy is 6'4"' and all muscle, shaved head and mean. Really mean. And nasty.

"So what?"you may ask...well this is "what": he drives a huge 4x4', black of course, with tinted windows, and on the back of the car, which he parks routinely in a minority neighborhood where the hospital is located, is a bumper sticker. Now normally, I never ever relate what is on the hate e-mails which I routinely receive, since it just promulgates it, but this is so frigging disturbed that I feel compelled to repeat it. Using large caps at the beginning of each word, it says:

One Big Assed Mistake, America
Vote Republican

People are actually terrified of this guy I have been made to understand. What always gives me pause is how many of these folk still work within the system of government close to or within the Executive Branch. I am just shaking my head continuously at the level of hate in this country. It portends poorly for our future.

"I was hitch-hiking back to my college in Upstate New York, and the most amazing thing happened to

me".

That phrase from countless Penthouse and Hustler "letters to the editor" may be equated with the often-used DU meme utilized by "new" posters: "Let me start by saying that I'm a liberal democrat..."

To those RWers lurking poorly here, let me just explain to you that many of us have been around for years here and can smell one of your posts...

Here are some hints:

Of COURSE you're a liberal democrat...we all are that's why we were allowed to sign up and sign the terms of service agreement.

Run up your post count over in Sports or the Lounge and TAKE YOUR TIME...perhaps two or three election cycles might do.

Don't start by criticizing the President if he or she is a Dem. Start by saying horrible things about Cheney or Reagan IF YOU CAN! We understand that that's really difficult for you to do, but you're going to have to try. First, however, wipe the Cheetos off your hands.

Compliment the poster you are answering. Say that you agree 100%, or words to that effect. Quote from Thom Hartman or old Michael Kinsley editorials.

One last thing, don't be yourself.

THIS A GIANT FUCKING DEAL!!!!!! Re: PA Voter ID

Other counties may join in using Pennsylvania voter-ID law loophole

By Jeremy Roebuck, Angela Couloumbis, and Jessica Parks
Inquirer Staff Writers

A voter-ID mutiny launched by Democratic-controlled Montgomery and Allegheny Counties showed signs of spreading across the state Friday, as Philadelphia and a handful of other local governments said they, too, would consider issuing poll-ready identification cards through county-run nursing homes and colleges.

Despite the bitter partisan debate surrounding the controversial Pennsylvania law, state Republicans voiced little opposition Friday to the counties' new plans.

"I don't think anyone contemplated the possibility of a county nursing home becoming an issuer of an identification document that could be used to satisfy the voter-ID requirement," said Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R., Delaware), a key force in enacting the law last March. But he added, "I am not against the principle of other entities having the ability to issue cards, as long as we have uniform standards and safeguards in place."

On Thursday, Allegheny and Montgomery Counties said they would begin issuing their own ID cards through county-run facilities.

The move exploits a loophole in the new law that allows both colleges and senior-care centers to provide such cards to anyone who lives in the county - not just to the people who attend those colleges or reside in those centers.
The counties' officials explained their decisions by citing complaints from residents who had run into trouble obtaining the required photo ID through the state's preferred route, the Department of Transportation.

Romney's losing it bigtime...

You can tell from his body language, the pitch in his voice, the increase in the words-per-minute of his speaking style, the wide-eyed, nearly-hysterical facial expressions and hand gestures, and the FACT that he threw a tantrum before the Univision taping, that he is in panic-mode, and not only angry beyond his pathetic inability to understand his own anger and others' emotionality, but frustrated and teary and no longer able to grin that stupid smirk for minutes at a time while he's being attacked or even questioned. He knows the real numbers and trends coming back from the pollsters and it is grave news: he is plummeting and the results of the election will resemble nothing seen in the modern era of the Republican Party. The fact that he was able to compensate all those months during the primaries while garnering only a small fraction of the total vote, but "winning", lulled him into a sense of security which was unrealistically optimistic. He "won" very little or nothing; his competitors hated him immensely; he, like Phil Gramm before him, thought he could simply buy a Presidential Election, and it's just not true; he thought he was destined both from religious and fiscal/cultural vantage points and he was dead wrong on all counts. He will be politically destroyed, and as far as I'm concerned, it couldn't happen to a 'nicer' guy.

I wonder if Romney will concede on Election Night...

I can see this dragging into the next day with threats of recounts and fraud accusations. Nothing is beneath these bastids.
