About Me

Now retired and living on Kaua'i. :)

Journal Archives

"The Pro gmo lobby" is Orwellian, imo. "Choice"? How about "labeling" their products to actually

have said "choice"? "Democracy"?! Shite, they wouldn't know "Democracy" when looks them in the face. Damn fascists.

The pro-GMO lobby talks about choice, democracy and the alleged violence of certain environmental groups but says nothing about the structural violence waged on rural communities resulting from IMF/World Bank strings-attached loans, the undermining of global food security as a result of Wall Street commodity and land speculators, the crushing effects of trade rules on poorer regions or the devastating impacts of GMOs in regions like South America. To discuss such things is political and thus ‘ideological’ and is therefore not up for discussion it seems.

Now the city of San Diego has to sue Monsanto.. for fucking up their Bay with chemicals..

A Fed Judge thwarted the Will of the People on Kaua'i.. I hate the MOFO. I moved to the other side of the Island to get away from their relentless spraying of poisonous roundup on the West side.

Federal Judge: Kauai's GMO Law Is Invalid

HONOLULU (AP) — A Kauai County law requiring companies to disclose their use of pesticides and genetically modified crops is invalid, a federal judge ruled Monday.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Kurren ruled in favor of four seed companies seeking to stop Kauai's new law from going into effect in October.

Syngenta Seeds, DuPont Pioneer, Agrigenetics Inc., doing business as Dow AgroSciences, and BASF Plant Sciences sued for a permanent injunction, arguing the ordinance unfairly targets their industry.

Kurren's ruling agrees that the ordinance is pre-empted by state law. The judge's ruling stops the county from enforcing the ordinance.

"I'm disappointed but that's the judge's option," said Paul Achitoff, an Earthjustice attorney who helped defend the law on behalf of intervening community groups. "I think the consequences for the people of Kauai, in particular, and throughout the state are very unfortunate."

Mahalo, Johny

And, Pres Obama made that very clear in Oct 2002 that he was against the "Dumb" war..

"I don't oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.

What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income, to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression.

But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors...and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.

I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences.

I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.

The rest..

Mahalo Steve.. our Monarch Butterflies are so important to our Earth.. damn gmo roundup toxic crap..

I have an anecdotal anti-gmo story from today..

I was at the Post Office getting a package.. the Postman brought me the wrong package out and I discovered it before I left the PO. I went right back to him and let him know.. I excused myself to the lady who was now getting her business done.. she said.. "oh, that's okay."

He brought out my package and I said to the woman.. "Good, that's my case of organic corn spaghetti!".. She(who is a local lady on Kaua'i) said.. one way to stay away from [strike]gmo[/strike].. I said, "Yes, and gluten!"

P.S. I should add that the Will of the People on Kauai, who voted to have a buffer zone between Monsanto and Schools and Hospitals and to divulge what's in their spray has been overturned by a Fed Judge. We are not giving up.

Mahalo LiberalArkie! Except that just gets us the photo.. but that's okay..

I have Ojibway blood.. mahalo, oxymoron for the beautiful photo. I'll have to show it to my sister

and son.

Is there a link?

Maybe he did and liked what he saw.. I just google him and got this..

"That Shamir ever gained access outraged many at WikiLeaks. Now Assange's dictator-admiring friend has surpassed himself"

Israel Shamir and Julian Assange's cult of machismo

Leaking, we are told, is a man's business. Israel Shamir, a strong supporter of Julian Assange, has penned an extraordinary piece in defence of the WikiLeaks founder as he awaits extradition to Sweden. The decision to extradite Assange for questioning in relation to alleged sexual offences against two women is, Shamir writes, "a defeat for all the men, and a defeat for mankind".

Assange's situation is not merely the consequence of one man's sexual liaisons, but part of a wider ploy to feminise men in order to make humanity more compliant to political elites. "Strong men are prone to rebellion, ready for sacrifice and primed for action," Shamir writes.

"It is no coincidence that the enemies of Empire are all masculine males, be they Gaddafi, Castro, Chávez, Lukashenko, Putin – or Julian Assange. It appears the men have been targeted for elimination; the working ants need no sex."

Strong men fight abuses of power, it seems, while women are, presumably, expected to support them from the kitchen – or in the bedroom.

If Shamir could be dismissed as merely a crank, his article might even be funny. But his influence over WikiLeaks and beyond is difficult to overestimate, and this relationship make his views more significant – and disturbing.

So Shamir.. thinks poor Julian is getting a raw deal.. like Gaddafi, Castro, Chávez, Lukashenko, Putin –

End quote from James Ball..

"Assange and Shamir may think their proclivity to judge people's worth by their testosterone level makes them alpha males, but others are far more likely to judge it makes them look like boys. It's time to grow up."

"According to Polyakov the idea to honour Putin with a monument arose a year ago when pro-Russian

forces, backed by Putin, seized the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine."

I thought the story they concocted was that they got the Crimea because "voting"?

This reads like the Onion!
