That, yes. But also there's a MUCH wider spectrum of choices now.
We have people running as serious, credible candidates in just about every demographic. More people, I think, are finding a candidate who blends with them in finer but significant points that carry a lot of weight on their own. Its like a political custom burger menu.
There simply are more choices available. And theres more to choose from for people who liked Bernie last time except that he ... (fill in the not-perfect or gee-if-only details here, of examples where Bernie fell short). More possibilities for finding someone whose candidacy really hits the bullseye rather than settling for degrees of closeness to said bullseye.
Always handy to have a lot of strings available for pulling.
