Heavens! GREAT rant! My husband is a pilot and when I read him this stuff, he just shook his head.

It's amazing. Just amazing. I'm glad both Governor and Mrs. Smug are safe and sound. And hopefully, comfortably AND PERMANENTLY installed in La Jolla, CA, with their car-elevator - or Michigan, or Massachusetts, or Utah, or wherever they claim their home turf is, in mid-November.

Welcome to DU, NEWYORKDEM! We can't afford the temptation of complacency.

That's part of the psy-ops game the other side is playing, too - trying to fuck with our heads and make us crazy and, they hope, discouraged - maybe it's no use, why bother, wrongney's got this in the bag, voter suppression, blah-blah-blah... Remember, as Rachel Maddow says in one of her MSNBC promos, "if you don't vote, YOU are fulfilling SOMEBODY ELSE'S plan."

Glad you're here. We need you.

Now get to work.

"Economic Patriotism" - GREAT new meme from Ed Shultz!

I heard that on his show just now. It's a GREAT one! Short 'n' sweet!

Needs to be Said, Read, and SPREAD!!!

Yes. Absolutely. We should get out the vote as though that really were true. SERIOUSLY.

DO NOT get complacent. They're gonna fight all the way to the polling places with an army of intimidators calling themselves "True the Vote." Funded by the koch brothers. We have to fight like there's no tomorrow. Because if this schmuck wins, we're ALL in trouble, INCLUDING the people who got suckered by him and were naive enough to believe what he said. ESPECIALLY them. And they're so pathetic that they won't even understand what hit them - Pox Noise will reassure them that it was all the fault of Obama and the Dems.

DO NOT GET COMPLACENT. YES, I'M SHOUTING!!!!! DO NOT GET COMPLACENT!!!!!!

We don't have this thing won yet.

September 24, 2012

No. He doesn't know that. He doesn't get it. And worse, he doesn't think there's anything to "get."

He thinks he's got this. He's comfortable in his "Captain Cliche" mode - just pulling the slogans out of his ass that he and the rest of us have been inundated with for 30 years.

SCHMUCK.

My hope would be that, karmically, he would someday have the opportunity to see and to walk in the shoes of people who have to live this way. Experience it, for real, up close 'n' personal. See, feel, hear, smell, and taste how it is to have to make do, day in and day out, in that world - so far away from his plush world of privilege and comfort. That he could see, really and truly and as harsh as that reality is, how the other half lives. Or the other 47%.

Excluding, of course, the millionaires in this category who skate by with all their deductions and tax shelters and manage not to have to pay any taxes either. He's already had MORE THAN ENOUGH experience living like that.

September 23, 2012

They did use the "r" word farther down in the story.

Sounds like they're already making room for him:

"Indeed, the first construction flight in 2019 is labeled "unfunded" in briefing charts, as is a robotic "sample return" moon mission in 2022." That's mittski's part right there!

What a great shot! THANK YOU for posting this, dear babylonsister! What a pick-me-up!

There are just some things that transcend. There just are. I guess maybe that's what I love best about this whole Obama era. For many little moments, we get in touch with our better selves. Even in all my cynicism, I'm reminded of that every time I see photos of President Obama meeting people - either as his guests visiting the White House or on the campaign stump or dropping by some burger joint or pizza place. It's the humanity. Sometimes elevated.

Like it, Jamaal510!

In one paragraph. Great work and covers pretty much everything!

"Neither party is perfect, but I'm sick of this bullshit false equivalence from politically uninformed people. Democrats & Republicans are NOT the same. One party wants to make it harder to vote, eliminate clean air & water standards, privatize education, cut health care, force Christianity on everyone, restrict what gays & women do in their private lives, & continue to give tax breaks to rich people who don't need them. You'd have to be crazy to believe that both sides are somehow equally bad."

I like to point out that it's like comparing a brick with a grain of aquarium gravel and pronouncing them equal to each other because they're both hard.

THIS is a good place to start!

DU strikes me as something beyond just a website or a blog - it's a think tank!

If you spend a little bit of time here, reading and checking out some of the links and commentaries and "Good Reads" and other stuff, you will be ASTOUNDED at how much you will learn! How your mind will expand! How much better-armed and equipped you'll be to take on others around you who get their talking points directly from Pox Noise.

Just hang around and absorb. You'll get ideas. You'll hear stories - inspirational ones and cautionary tales. Success stories, for example, about those DUers who've managed to complain to a local store or bank about ALWAYS airing Pox on their in-store monitors - and gotten the channel changed; or how somebody in their office/class/shop/checkout line/etc was finally reached and eyes were opened, and the truth finally was able to break through to them. You'll see those here all the time. You'll see great slogans and bumper stickers and clever phrasing and meme-scheming that are memorable and engaging and worth sharing - to be "said, read, and spread!" You'll learn about approaches, techniques, and phrasings that work as well as those that don't. You'll gain from others' accomplishments here and learn from their mistakes. You'll get LOTS of history and background info from people here, both through the links they post to buttress their arguments AND their own anecdotal testimony from their own lives - especially the veterans here and the older DUers who can remember back through maybe a dozen Presidents' terms! That perspective is PRICELESS and will expand your own understanding and your growing mastery of facts. AND you'll have a chance to "eavesdrop" on some of the finest, most nimble-minded, and shrewd debaters - literally world class.

Best of all: you'll get a sense of solidarity that there are LOTS of people who feel as you do, and see things as you do, and recognize truths and lies as you do. It will help keep you fired up when you're on a roll and reassure you when something concerns or outrages or bewilders you, or brings you down. You'll discover you are FAR from being alone. Our side is gaining ground by the day!

Glad you're here!

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
