Whaddya call THIS, then? Either an attempt to suck up or a shrug of futility as though they knew better than try to fight this. Why? Hard not to recognize that she's popular and she's capable and she's experienced and she's well-connected in the international arena, back then AND now. There are enough active bad guys on that list, like inhofe and hatch and brownback and coburn and barrasso and chambliss, and mccain who's known for being a Sore Loserman on occasion, to be able to punch this point home. Won't make much difference to the non-thinking, and it won't stop the idiots from yapping and trying to attack her anyway. She exists. Therefore they attack.

But it's ammo for us anyway!
