Yep.

It should be a public utility. It should NOT be a for-profit enterprise. As it is - the insurance industry is making money on YOU, on YOUR illness or disability, on YOUR untreated slide toward premature death, and that's how they want it.

NO ONE, NO ENTERPRISE, should be making money off your illness, disability, or your death. Shit, aren't there enough other ways for people and businesses to make money? By NOT being human vultures?

And They Don't Want To. It's Simply Not Part Of Their Belief System.

They think government is there basically to make war.

They haven't wanted this kind of thing since FDR pushed the New Deal through that helped lift the US out of the Great Depression. They do not see government as being in that "line of business" - you know, the business of HELPING PEOPLE!

They simply do NOT want to help you or anybody else in need. They don't think they should have to! They don't think it's government's job. They don't believe that this is part of what government is supposed to do.

The republi-CON party has wanted to dismantle the New Deal since the moment it was conceived. Because they don't believe that's what government is supposed to do.

Everybody - you're on your own. Every man for himself. Boot yourself up by your own bootstraps. And what if you don't have boots? Well, then, that's just too bad. It sucks to be you.

THAT is your modern-day republi-CON party. They DON'T want to help you. They don't believe it's their job, in the first place.

Remember, too, that without the ACA, those premiums would have skyrocketed, unrestrained.

The increase would have been MUCH higher, and MUCH sooner.

The ACA has held them down. It'd be far worse, and on far more people, without it.

About time. What the hell took 'em so long?

What on earth did they think they were getting from him, knowing his track record for almost constant lying?

What on earth compelled them to throw caution, and reason, to the wind like this?

Did they believe that somehow, somewhere, somewhen, he was going to change and suddenly measure up to the job?

I've heard that again and again, even from people I know who voted for him.

"Well, I'm just going to remain hopeful..."
"Don't worry - he's going to rise to the occasion..."
"Just give him time! He'll start coming around..."
"Just let him get in there, and he'll start getting it! He'll get it! You'll see! He'll understand..."
"He's such a great businessman. He'll do just fine. He'll be fine. It'll be fine..."
"It's still early... he's still new at this..."

And despite this poll, there are still FAR too many who remain completely hoodwinked.

No freakin' shit.

Coulda knocked me over with a feather, on that one.

June 28, 2017

And because they don't believe in government.

They like the "every man for himself" way to live.

They like the IGMFU agenda - "I Got Mine, F-U."

They like the "watch me get all holy and sanctimonious and wrap myself around the Cross of Christ (while I completely ignore and dismiss, and even scoff at His teachings)." Hint: Check out Matthew 25:35-45. The one about "whatever you do to the least of these..."

They like the worship of the false gods of power and money.

I hope they face a Voters' Apocalypse in 2018.

Well, let's hope he enjoys his final year-and-a-half in HIS job.

I hope this constituent's outrage isn't appeased by the crumbs the GOP will try to force-feed to him and every other unsuspecting, and naive American who'll believe that crap.

You have a so-called "president" who LIES to you, America. LIES to you. At an almost ridiculous rate. Why do you still cheer for him and swallow his shit?

Welcome to DU, RickHworth!

It definitely IS a welcome break. Back when we had true class and legitimacy, compassion, and a sense of true service in the Oval Office.

No, he wasn't perfect. Yes, he made some mistakes. But overall, he was a pretty doggone magnificent President. Noble, dignified, a role model in EVERY sense of the word - as a leader, a man, a husband, a father, a scholar. We don't have ANYTHING like that in there now. trump can't even begin to think of filling Barack Obama's shoes. Hell, he couldn't dream of filling Hillary's shoes, either. Sniveling, lying, vulgar, deceitful, scheming, manipulative coward is what we've got in there now. He's such a disgrace he couldn't even fill dubya's shoes.

June 28, 2017

Indeed. Let's hope that Congressman gets the message, and has a lot to think about.

It's a directive from people who should really count the most to him: his constituents. NOT the Goddamn insurance lobby, OR the IGMFU politics and agenda of the GOP. IGMFU is an acronym for "I Got Mine, F-U."

This particular constituent of that Congressman was freakin' MAGNIFICENT.

Hi summer_in_TX!

I saw you weigh in on another thread but it's most interesting to learn more about you! Thanks so much for sharing your story and your perspective.

I'm a lifelong Catholic and almost a lifelong Californian. What I learned about Christ in Catholic school tells me almost nobody understands His message anymore. Nobody in politics, anyway. I've started quoting from Matthew 25:35-45 more and more during this dark and menacing time. That's the New Testament passage about "whatever you do to the least of these." And when I look at the modern GOP through that lens, I see nothing but apostasy and flat-out heresy. God DOESN'T want you to be rich. His Son even told the rich young man flat-out to go sell all his belongings and give the money to the poor if the rich kid wanted to follow Him. So this "prosperity gospel" crap that so many in this country cling to means they've run off to follow the snake oil salesmen and the carnival barkers with their freak shows - and by George if they didn't put one of those weasels into the White House. With a LOT of help from Vladimir Putin.

I cannot support OR acknowledge, OR view as legitimate, a so-called "president" who was installed in OUR White House by a hostile foreign power. Just can't do it. trump is not my president. He won't be my president, ever. I guess I just really don't have one right now. But we here DO have DU. And that, and the solidarity therein, both provide a good and much-needed coping mechanism, at least. This place very much helped get me through bush/cheney.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
