I was there the first time!

Sat there huddled close to the TV that rested on my desk next to where I did homework. It was a good position for watching from bed. I learned that I could adjust the brightness and the volume - turn the brightness and sound all the way down and then my mom wouldn't know I'd been watching TV instead of studying.

The lore about this included the story of how the water pressure across the country was affected because after the Beatles played, the show cut to a commercial break, and that's when everybody from coast-to-coast ran to the bathroom - and of course flushed at once!

Those were the days, my friend...

Thanks for posting this, Wilms!

I think somebody got to him early in 2004, after some really ferocious reporting

and questioning he did regarding the fraudulent Texas Air National Guard "tour of duty" dubya skated by with. He was really rough on snotty scotty mcclellan, georgie-poo's second press secretary. He was like a dog on a pants leg about this. And then all of a sudden it all died down, and so did he, and no longer did you see david gregory pushing those tough questions to get through the obfuscation and tap-dancing from that White House. All of a sudden, it was basic softballs all around.

Somebody got to him. Because he hasn't been that aggressive as a reporter or interviewer since then.

Amen to that.

I'm afraid I've become so cynical about these things that I half-expected him to walk. We've sure seen a lot of other guilty parties skate away. I'm SO glad he couldn't. He deserves every book they throw at him.

I love your Dante quote. Shatteringly relevant.

We actually had one whole Catholic priest convicted recently, too.

Hopefully it's a start. NOT the end. I hope jerry sandusky NEVER walks free again, and I hope for the same with all the other human lice involved in, denying, excusing for the sake of protecting their precious fucking football program, and covering up, this horrible horrible scandal.

Hey, I've heard that even the governor knew.

Haven't followed every last thread in this disgusting unraveling rug, so I'm not 100% sure about that one. But enough of them DID sit on their hands. Football was sacred. Couldn't possibly rock the boat to save a few insignificant kids when this giant of a man was playing such a key role in keeping the football team on top and the money and bragging rights pouring in.

Couldn't agree with you more, sad sally. May they suffer the way you've said in this life, and burn to a crisp in the next one! I'm sure glad my son was never into sports (except for karate). He never got into that stupid, pig-headed, thuggish, mow-'em-down, acceptable-violence culture.

June 24, 2012

Hell, I'd be all for digging him up and slapping charges on his corpse.

He knew. And even if he "tried" to "do something about it," he sure didn't "try" that hard! They all had their priorities: the sanctity of the stupid damn fucking football program trumped everything. They're all seriously at fault, especially those who looked away - whether they were university officials and coaches, alumni, local business interests and politicians, media people and/or sponsors who refused to rock the boat because the Almighty Football Program had to be protected over all else. Lives were ruined. But Heaven forbid the accursed football program be threatened in any way. They're all criminals in my book.

Things like this make me HATE football.

Well, they're never going to reconsider that by reading through here.

NEVER forget: If they think you don't care, they won't, either. Here's one place where you can let them know you DO care:

http://thecycle.msnbc.msn.com

There's a write-up on the whole show, and then, scrolling down, there are brief profiles of each of the four apparent co-hosts. You can comment under each one.

Here's what I posted:

Good Heavens, WHY? Someone with S.E. Cupp's slant has NO business being a cohost on MSNBC! What are you people thinking??? The fact that we already have to suffer the likes of Scarborough and Chuck Todd is bad enough. Cupp is agonizingly miscast. It's not just her wrong-headed politics. Her smug superiority complex makes her utterly unwatchable.
Why couldn't Martin Bashir get two hours? Intelligence, sophistication, gloriously literate, a touch of humility, elegance, and we know he's on our side - because he has brains and a conscience and both of those elements tend to lead toward progressive thinking. I don't come to MSNBC to find out what conservatives are thinking. I come to MSNBC to GET AWAY from (and see debunked) what conservatives are thinking. I don't even want 'em around as sacrificial goats or punching bags, for that matter. I'm sure there's plenty of room for Cupp's shtick at Fox "News".
Please. Please understand. I don't come to MSNBC for "balance," at least not the kind of "fair and balanced (to one side)" perversion of the word "balance" now in common usage. I come to MSNBC to get the liberal point of view. The Democratic point of view. MY point of view. If I wanted "Devil's Advocacy," I'd go where the Devil is. I come to MSNBC to see coverage and commentary by intelligent, prominent, well-informed, well-connected, and circumspect people who share MY views. I will be doing something else during this hour. Too bad. I kinda like Krystal Ball.

True! I don't EVER EVER EVER want to hear the likes of Nancy Pelosi or anybody else saying

"I could have had kkkarl rove arrested but I didn't."

BUT YOU DIDN'T!?!?!?!?!?!?! WHAT THE HELL???????

Opportunities like that don't just fall in your lap every other day when the clock strikes 2pm.

I still remember one moment when the GOP members in the House got up and walked out, en masse, in protest of something or other that the Dem leadership did to get their panties in a bunch and their noses out of joint.

I yearned for Nancy or some Dem to seize the gavel, wait til the last of the enemy combatants left the room (and that IS how they should be viewed, and dealt with), and then stepped to the podium and directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to lock the doors. And after that was done, direct the rest of the House to come to order and "let's get some work done, folks." Lock the fuckers out. They of course ran straight to the camera crews that I'm sure had been tipped off by a well-coordinated GOP media stunt crew. The would have realized soon enough that they'd been locked out - the folks inside had shrewdly called their bluff. And once inside, the remaining Dems should have declared they had a quorum and proceeded to vote on, and pass, the legislation the bad guys had been obstructing.

STERLING opportunity to kick the enemy in the teeth and shame them in public and run over them and their egos and their stupid second-grade stunts with tractors. But of course they let 'em slide. BLEW the moment completely. 'Cause we had to take the "high road," you see. And in politics, as our side never seems to learn or understand, the high road leads you straight over a cliff.

Lydia, you need to make this a separate post. NAILS the diagnosis in four one-line points.

DAMN! You seriously nailed this one. That encapsulates EVERYTHING that's gone wrong - that our party has done to itself.

Repeating what Lydia Leftcoast said:

Really, the Dems have only themselves to blame because they didn't

1) Fight back hard enough against Reagan. (In fact, some of them, namely the DLC, agreed with him on most issues.)

2) Counter the right-wing noise machine

3) Court the middle and working class on economic issues with grassroots organizers and plain talking politicians

4) Refuse to drink the "free" trade Kool-Aid

I've even heard that Les Moonves would love to buy himself a movie studio so that CBS Films would take on added luster, industry clout, and credibility. And the way to do that, as I've seen it speculated, would be to sell their radio properties. COULD WE PLEEEEEEEZE GET SOME RICH LIBERALS TO BUY THEM UP????????????? Attention Messers Geffen, Reiner, Spielberg, Katzenberg, and even Warren Buffett and George Soros.

DAMN! Does NO ONE on our side of the aisle think strategically, for the long term???

June 21, 2012

They should be called out for committing high treason. I'm not kidding.

TREASON - to obstruct their Commander-in-Chief during wartime. This IS what they're doing. They're obstructing the President, who also serves as Commander-in-Chief whether they like it or not, during a time of war, which we very definitely ARE in.

This should be brought to their attention. They're playing hardball. Obama has it within his Presidential powers to play HARDER ball. And that will be the only thing they respect. Grudgingly, all the way, of course.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
