That's my girl! And she isn't even my Senator!

Well, I take that back. I feel very strongly that she does represent me, even though she's all the way across the country on the opposite coast. I proudly contributed to her campaign and I am delighted to see how well my investment is paying off! She took my California money and has been doing VERY good things with it. Makes me want to send her some more.

Meanwhile, both of my Senators out here are doing nicely, too. Dianne Feinstein is the one leading the charge on curbing gun violence. And Barbara Boxer - well, she leads on EVERYTHING ELSE I care about, too.

The principles and strength and resolve of these three women are making me very proud!

I wish we had 58 more like Elizabeth Warren. That, plus Feinstein and Boxer, would give us the 60 votes we always seem to need to get important work done and problems addressed.

Well then, come fully into the light and SWITCH PARTIES, Dumb-shit!

Or go "Independent," which is the wuss-way fallback chosen by those who are too embarrassed to admit they're still republi-CONs.

Sorry to be such a hard-ass (it's how I woke up this morning, for some reason), but I just have NO patience for people like this.

FORCE YOUR PARTY TO WAKE UP AND SMELL THE 21st CENTURY COFFEE - OR LEAVE!!! Seems to me it's the latter approach that's the most realistic. Much of the republi-CON party clearly appears to be unredeemable at this point. Too many of them are dug in so stubbornly, clinging to their 13th Century belief systems (and I'm being generous here, 'cause many of 'em can be found in the 6th Century and even farther back - all the way to the freakin' Bronze Age) that they're simply no longer reachable.

I know the speed bumps you're describing - there are some, shall we say, ruthless ones.

We're not allowed to have bumps like that on our street, but I've been in parking lots and such where they have been installed. Those speed bumps are damn serious. They do NOT kid around.

I appreciate your comment. People who've pointed this out are making a very good point, indeed. And in the meantime, I remain grateful for small favors. I'll take the stop sign on my street - even though all it can do is slow down the speeders. BIG improvement over how it used to be (she said, remembering a neighbor's cat that got hit by a speeding car and killed - the kids were in tears for that whole day)!

April 12, 2013

That's what finally happened for us, and how we got those stop signs on our street.

We didn't give up. I didn't give up. I found someone else in the neighborhood who wanted to help and had the proper contacts downtown.

Persistence works. If you can't get the front door to open, look for another way in. The back door, a side window, a basement grate, whatever.

Same thing with Congress. Look what happened in the Senate today - where that supposedly invincible and inevitable rand paul filibuster stunt was just SURE to happen. And it fell apart like a soggy cookie.

April 12, 2013

Agreed. Hey, remember just a few days ago ALL media was talking about how the filibuster was gonna

sink ANY gun controls - at even the DISCUSSION level. "Not gonna happen, not gonna happen, hopeless, hopeless, hopeless." We heard it again and again.

And look what DID happen. We're not out of the woods by any means, but PRESSURE WORKS!!!

If any of this stuff you don't like does go through - it's because...

As we've heard some of these Congresspeople and Senators admitting - they hold a town meeting and who attends? All the louts and loud-mouths and bullies and baggers crowd in and shout everyone down and are rude and hostile and aggressive, and nobody with an opposing view is heard (possibly because those with a different view just don't get off their asses and GO TO SOME OF THESE MEETINGS, and make themselves heard)! They cede the point before the point is even made.

And the result? Said Congresspeople and Senators get the idea that THAT point of view is the only one out there, or the majority one, or the only one that counts.

LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED when the Sandy Hook parents went to Capitol Hill and faced down every Senator and forced them to SEE, to LOOK, and taste, and feel the anguish - sitting there two or three feet away, living and breathing and in many cases sobbing into kleenex that was being passed around by the box. As in - "look me in the eye and tell me you can't do anything about this. (Proceed, governor.)" And look how that turned the tide. What was it sixty-EIGHT Senators who voted to proceed with debate? That seemingly invincible filibuster by that obstinate self-flattering thinks-he's-presidential-material jerk rand paul - never made it out of the gate.

Howard Dean said it a few years back - the only way you lose is if you give up.

Stand up and be counted. Let 'em hear you, and hear your anger at what they're failing to do. Heck, I didn't post all those TOLL FREE numbers to the Capitol Hill switchboard in my sig line for nothing, you know.

IF THEY THINK YOU DON'T CARE, THEY WON'T EITHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

April 11, 2013

Well, that's all you need - to be certain that it's one colossally shitty idea!

One that only benefits the moneygrubbers and "money-changers in the Temple."

The fucking "Club for Growth" approves.

Also known as "We divide, THEY conquer."

Sorry. Can't do it.

"Aftermath" was a terrific album!!! "Going Home"!!!

"...I'm going home (dooooo doo-doo doo-doo-doo), I'm goin' home (dooooo doo-doo doo-doo-doo)...Goin' home bome bome bome-buh-bome..." Loved it! Played it on my radio show! One of the very early LONG album cuts! They really were pioneers.

I just kinda fell away after "Let It Bleed". I like "Miss You," and "Emotional Rescue" and "Start Me Up." But I never bought another Stones album after "Let it Bleed". The light just sorta went out for me. I still thought they were good. But no longer great.

I had a mad crush on him that actually rivaled that for my "other husband," Paul McCartney.

He was incredibly versatile as a musician. I read comments from his contemporaries that said he was the kind of musician who could pick up an instrument he'd never seen or played before, and in minutes, could figure out how to play it and make real music with it. He just had a gift.

Remarkably, my son seems to have a similar gift.

"...the unanimously unliked band founder and original guitarist Brian Jones"?

Well, I thought he was the coolest, hunkiest, most ridiculously-talented (musically) member of the band. I was enthralled. Sad to see him described as "unanimously unliked." After all, he founded the Rolling Stones. But he made some really bad choices. Died way too soon. So sad.
