Welcome to DU, DreWId!

Excellent point you make. We've really let the ball drop on the state level. And look what's happened. We HAVE to make it a priority to take back more statehouses - AND around the decade mark, so that WE influence the census, reapportionment, and the UN-gerrymandering of the drawing of the congressional districts, and NOT the bad guys. 'Cause look what's happened, everywhere that a republi-CON took the governorship and also the Secretary of State job. ALL they think about anymore is figuring out ways to cheat, because they realize that they can't win on their ideas, policies, agendas, or merits. They know the numbers aren't with them anymore, so they're trying to figure out how to have it both ways - leave their Neanderthal anti-social policies intact AND get more votes. And the only way to do that while you're swimming against the currents of the national morality, ethics, changing demographics and evolving worldview - is to figure out a foolproof way to cheat. Preferably under the radar so it's too late for us to do anything to stop it by the time we realize what's happening.

We need a LOT better vigilance. A LOT better and more skilled and more determined forward and rear guards. We need people who think deviously - so we can outflank and outmaneuver, and ANTICIPATE what the GOP nogoodniks are apt to do next. Seems like they're always getting the jump on us. THAT has to change if we're to blunt the threat they pose.

OH yes. THAT'S who it was.

Hey, you've seen one republi-CON blonde, you've seen 'em all. Hard to tell 'em apart anymore...

What a wonderful story!!! Stuff like this we need to hear and read about, every day!

It's quite reassuring, actually. Nice to hear about this anecdotal evidence of people-to-people healing and enlightenment. Stunning to think how attitudes have been, in some places, during our lifetimes. And of course we really still haven't surmounted all of this OR left it behind us, unfortunately.

I just think it's one of the funniest damn photos I've ever seen!

It makes me laugh, anew, every time I look at it. I have it on the large profile photo space on my Facebook page, too!

And when anybody asks or comments on it I just say - "well, haven't you wondered?"

I've had cats as pets since I was nine years old. Now we have four of them - all rescues. And a dog. She's a rescue too. We've joked about kitty-loafs for a long time! They do look like meatloaves when they sit this way, don't they?!

Isn't nicole wallace the little girl who served as dubya's White House Press spokesperson but didn't

know what the Bay of Pigs was?

And then she went on to be the personal shopper and outfitter for sarah palin in 2008? Well, MAYBE she knows a few things about shopping and accessorizing.

But she clearly doesn't know enough to realize that - just because you've heard of Tupak, or even know a few things about him, that can't gloss over sheer willful ignorance of changing times, changing attitudes, and changing demographics. Maybe she thinks cosmetics is all you need, but this is not claiming you have a clear complexion when you've simply masked the zits with zit-cover-up.

I watch the Food Network a lot and I know who the Iron Chefs are. That does NOT mean I myself am therefore adept and/or experienced in a gourmet kitchen in a high-stakes chef competition.

Poor little dear. I hope the GOP get LOTS more advice from nice little airheads like her!

Okay just put up with me for a minute, please... I am EXULTANT!!!!

I just found the instructions (in the "HELP" thread) for uploading photos. Found some a long time ago but forgot how and couldn't find the instructions. Well, I just found them yet again!

So here:

Oh man, that was one of the things I was thinking about while watching that night.

I remember it so well! My mind actually went to - "gee, what a same that President Kennedy didn't live to see this!" Man - I remember exactly where I was, seated at the desk in my room, supposedly doing homework for the following (Monday) morning. My TV was there on the desk - at my left elbow. I was just mesmerized! And yeah, couldn't hear a thing. Too much screaming! None from me, though. My parents thought I was in my room doing my homework.

I was ten. Fifth grade. Sat transfixed!

And then afterwards I went to the bathroom. Later I read that the water level from coast to coast took a noticeable drop! Everybody else who was watching that "Ed Sullivan Show" watched the Beatles' segments and held it all in so they wouldn't miss anything. And then they ran to the bathroom. At the same time. Across the country! And then the inevitable - they flushed at the same time, too.

It evidently set a record.

I LOVE rock 'n' roll trivia!

I know what you mean! I was so thrilled when I saw two of my own!

So cool when somebody "hearts" you! Very good for the morale! It does make one feel like celebrating. And you're deserving! Pretty damn cool when you get evidence of it from outside your own self! It's very validating, and in this ultra-critical world it's a good thing. Congrats!

And whoever "hearted" me, thank you and thank you!!!

She was utterly masterful. More gravitas in her fingernail clippings than most

of the self-inflated have in the entire bodies they'd have lived in, if they lived several lifetimes.

What a magnificent woman. When it was her turn to speak, you could hear a microbe drop in the room. And she didn't speak. She was an orator. And Freakin' BRILLIANT. All you could do was watch and listen, and then mutter "magnificent" to yourself under your breath.

In other respects and for different (and equally magnificent) reasons, I'd also include Ann Richards and Molly Ivins.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
