Welcome to DU, Gregory1230!

Thanks for that insight about lip-reading. Most valuable! All kinds of below-the-radar clues can paint you a much more complete picture. It's SO much about perception - either overt or covert, and it seems so superficial to be thinking along these lines, and watching for these little bitty physical (and other) cues. Unfortunately, that's a whole other level of message transmission that's been developed to a high degree, and plays a huge part in making that message sink in, that we have to look at it that way.

Anyway - glad you're here, and we need you!

Now get to work.

He got the last word? GOOD.

Especially when it's maneuvered such that the opponent doesn't have a chance to rebut. The statement is allowed to stand - unchallenged and uncorrected, and as the lazy "journalists" all say these days, "well, I'm afraid we're going to have to leave it there..."

So let it be written, so let it be done.

LOVE this quote! A keeper for sure!

Kerry: "Tonight was the beginning of the unraveling of the Mitt Romney campaign"

May it spell out EXACTLY what is happening in the reality-based community - AND beyond!

Shit. My husband and I are both cowering out on the deck, away from the TV.

I won't say he's being chicken - BUT I SURE AS HELL AM!!!!!!!! My husband is far more noble and brave than I, so I suspect he decided not to watch because I was hiding like a chicken-shit. He was a good birthing coach, too. Really sympathetic and empathetic! I guess I've got too much, personally, in this, for my own good. FREAKIN' TERRIFIED about the idea of wrongney winning!!!

DU is the only thing I dare stick my neck out to seek a reality check. So you guys are once again, my light and my strength down a very dark, dicey path...

:I wish I knew where to find the "You Rock" smilie!:

I know how you feel, Carolina. I'm glad I'm over 55, too. But I don't take much comfort in that

when I consider that anyone younger than 55 - even if by ONE DAY - is gonna get hosed. And you think they're gonna be inclined to respect their elders or care for our needs if THAT happens? Not in this day and age, when everyone's encouraged to be greedy and selfish, and those who've done the most of it are lionized, admired, emulated, and damn near canonized.

Welcome to DU, AaronMayorga!

Glad you're here! I was watching it myself! Glad it's starting to move the meter a little. But we've gotta push it WAY OUT THERE past Martin Bashir. I LOVE Martin Bashir! I love his show! So I'm delighted he's picking up on this. Hopefully it'll go WAY farther than that.

But the problem is - they ARE falling for it.

These guys really fascinate me! Look at all the devious ideas they've come up with to pervert reality!

And look how successful they are. People fall for it like nobody's business, and only after the damage is done, only years later, do the suckers come out of their stupor and realize that they got played - by somebody or other. And by then, these bastards are back, with all kinds of devious ideas for explaining to the suckers that the people who played 'em are OUR guys - who actually did NOT. And watch the suckers fall for it AGAIN!!!

So MY question is -

WHY AREN'T OUR GUYS COMING UP WITH STUFF LIKE THIS????? WHY NOT????? WHY THE FUCK NOT???????????????? Are we so prissy that we just HAVE to stand with the suckers? 'Cause if we don't (she said, with her eyelashes batting and her fingers pointing to her dimples), gee whiz we'll be just like them!!!

Well, how terrible is THAT - IF THEY'RE WINNING???????????? If they get close enough to steal?????

We can be proper and moral and have our asses marched all the way out the back door while the bad guys pull this shit and succeed!

Now, they've managed to maneuver close enough to steal it, and they have all the mechanisms to do that. And OUR guy decided to be nice and dignified and elegant - and look where that got him - BLEW all his leads because he or his advisors told him to be above it all.

But this is politics. This is not morality. This is not church. This is not etiquette class. This is not let's all get along. And it can't be, as long as the other side refuses to meet us there, and refuses to acknowledge - much less play by - rules.

We're gonna get suckered every single damn time if we don't start getting a little more devious.

I hate that it's that way. I wish it was all about REALLY AND TRULY playing fair, with both sides sincerely agreeing.

BUT IT IS NOT. And as long as the playing field is stacked that way, I think we HAVE to start playing that way or else we're gonna get rolled. Again.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I have NO interest in taking the so-called high road here, especially when we have to fight ruthless, amoral, cheating assholes like this. Virtue and valor and honest just don't beat 'em - mainly because the public is so damned gullible and dumbed-down, with the memory of a fruit fly. These are obscenely idiotic conditions that aren't based in reason or reality, that call for different approaches. Any OTHER approach than just being nice and polite and trying to get along.

Under conditions LIKE THESE, taking the high road takes us straight over a cliff.

What a great quote!

"Sometimes you have to go up really high to understand how small you are," Baumgartner said before stepping off a small ledge on the outside of a capsule lifted into the stratosphere by a helium-filled balloon.

Wow, Ryan, what a great essay! Thank you! I think we all found our way here in much the same way,

and just sopped up the camaraderie and eloquence and passion here - AND compassion. I got here not long after the dubya days started, by way of a website called "Resident bush" - because the site owner considered georgie poo a mere squatter or resident in what was rightfully Al Gore's White House. I still remember being amazed that I'd finally found somebody who felt the same way I did! Then "Resident bush" led me to places like Buzzflash.com and then here. It's been my oasis in a vast desert ever since! And it's an absolute THINK TANK that's all ours - and pretty doggone impressive!

I love this place. It's buoyed me up during glum times - like the entirety of the bush/cheney nightmare, for example. And it's made me a smarter citizen and voter, and a better Democrat!

Great piece, Ryan! Thank you for posting it - I know YOU have buoyed up everyone who reads it!

To all the new DUers (or at least with low post counts)! Welcome!

I just realized that there are some threads I've kinda skimmed, and noticed new low-count postings on them, and sometimes there are more than I can say "Welcome to DU" to at that moment. So I feel like I'm in arrears. My apologies!

Welcome to DU! I've been focusing on all those with post counts less than or somewhat over 100. I realize some are people who've been here awhile but just didn't post that much.

ANYWAY - I just wanted to make sure everybody felt included and that I didn't mean to forget anybody!

VERY glad you guys are here, and we need you! We don't have this thing nailed down yet!!!

If I inadvertently miss somebody in the meantime - please do know we are delighted you're here and that we have your help and commitment to advance the LIBERAL/PROGRESSIVE agenda, led by President Barack Obama who has more than earned a second term - particularly considering the alternative currently being offered.

Now get to work.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
