Fired & reported to the Secret Service

No self-awareness. No decorum. No remorse. No sense.

I truly worry about my president.

Obama threat gets Turlock woman fired, reported to Secret Service
By Marijke Rowland
mrowland@modbee.com

TURLOCK -- A Turlock woman who posted inflammatory comments on Facebook about President Barack Obama has been fired from her job and reported to the U.S. Secret Service. Turlock resident Denise Helms, 22, posted shortly after the president's re-election Tuesday on her Facebook page, "And another 4 years of the (n-----). Maybe he will get assassinated this term..!!"

- snip -

She told the Fox 40 reporter: "I didn't think it would be that big of a deal. … The assassination part is kind of harsh. I'm not saying like I would go do that or anything like that, by any means, but if it was to happen, I don't think I'd care one bit."

- snip -

Helms graduated from Placer High School in 2008, according to her Facebook page, and has the Romney/Ryan 2012 page among her "likes." She is not listed as a registered voter in the state registry database.

Helms could not be reached for comment by The Bee. She told Fox 40 she wasn't aware she could be investigated by the Secret Service for her post.

"OK, but what did I do wrong? That's fine if they want to," she told the reporter. "But I don't understand what I did wrong."

How to De-Romneyize an Airplane

I thought this was interesting.

How to De-Romneyize an Airplane
By Nick Summers on November 06, 2012

After Election Day, the work of tearing down a presidential campaign begins. Field offices are dismantled. Bunting and balloons are junked. And a small company in Michigan gets back its airplane.

- snip -

The first step in turning it around, says Active Aero spokeswoman Bernadette Quist, is a thorough cleaning. “Decontamination” may be more appropriate. Campaign planes are notoriously filthy places, where poor hygiene, recycled air, and threadbare immune systems combine to create flying tubes of contagion. When USA Jet leases an airplane to, say, the University of Michigan varsity hockey team, Quist says, it usually comes back none the worse for wear. “That just gets your basic pickup and cleaning,” she says. “This is going to need a little more intense care, shall we say.”

Once the plane is no longer a disease vector, it’s time to de-brand it. The Romney paint job—a blue belly and white top, with “BELIEVE IN AMERICA” stenciled on each side—will be stripped and painted over, likely with a mostly white coat and the USA Jet logo.

Breast Cancer: Call to action

I just received this email from BreastCancerAction.org
(I have Stage IV Breast Cancer)

Dear Xxxxxx,

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is nearly 30 years old this year – after three decades and billions of dollars, why is this disease still an epidemic?

It’s the government’s job to protect the health of those it governs, but our government has outsourced breast cancer to large philanthropic organizations, like Komen and Avon, which are beholden to corporate funders. This strategy is not working for women.

Our elected officials should be taking bold, meaningful action for breast cancer prevention and better breast cancer treatments through independent research and strong regulation. It’s time for us to say, “enough with the pink crap!” and demand real action on breast cancer from our elected representatives.

This year we're reminding our elected officials:
"It's an Epidemic, Stupid!"

[link:http://org2.democracyinaction.org/o/6098/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=11729|Please take action today to put breast cancer front and center in the national conversation.
]
In the 1960’s, a woman’s lifetime risk for breast cancer was 1 in 20. Today, for every woman who lives to be 85, her lifetime risk is 1 in 8. This year, like last year, 40,000 women will die of breast cancer. These numbers are not OK.

Breast cancer should be front and center in national conversations about health reform and women’s health – now! In anticipation of November’s election, we’re rolling out our Mandate for Government Action and need your help getting it into the hands of elected officials and candidates for public office.

Tell your legislators today to publicly support the 2012 Breast Cancer Action Mandate for Government Action.

It’s not enough for our elected officials to “support the cause” by wearing a pink ribbon or sharing a heartfelt personal story about breast cancer. Elected officials have a unique and essential role to initiate and support independent research and strong regulation to address and end the breast cancer epidemic.

As individuals we cannot shop or walk or run our way out of this epidemic. Our legislators must take meaningful action to address and end this epidemic – let’s light the fire under them to do it.

Onward to ending this epidemic,

Karuna Jaggar
Executive Director

I wonder if they were afraid if they charged Zimmerman that the

NRA wouldn't swoop in and run roughshod over the police department and the DA. The town of Sanford may have just been too chicken to face the NRA and ALEC bullies.

Think about it, the NRA & ALEC have spent a lot of time and money pushing this law not only in Florida, but several other states, as well.

If I remember correctly, the investigating police detective was somewhat honest with Trayvon's parents early on, and also, there were leaks coming out of the PD, showing how badly Zimmerman behaved that night.

The best thing that happened was Trayvon has smart, loving parents, & the public became passionately outraged - nationally and internationally!

This outrage has weakened ALEC and the NRA's stance on this issue. It's more difficult for them to come into town with their high-priced lawyers, bully-pulpit talk and whatever other bullshit they could muster to intimidate the locals.

I don't doubt there was some racism involved, but I also wonder if the PD either didn't know how, or was just too afraid to face the NRA bullies and the loony right wing public with their crazy antics.

Imagine how that would have played out. Zimmerman would be home, doing public appearances, doing a book tour - an over-night wealthy success & poster boy for the 2nd Amendment.

Just brainstorming here ....

I would bet those 15 are not very intelligent & they lack moral character.

Seriously. Low info & easily swayed candidates voted into office by low info & easily swayed voters. The teaparty is a plutocratic scam played on these people. They fell for it hook, line & sinker.

The new Congressmen most likely lack analytical skills & probably can't think fast on their feet.

They got elected & ended up being dazzled by DC, wined & dined, swayed, wooed & maybe even threatened, too. The money people will play nice so long as the newbies play nice back.

Life is good in DC. They feel important. Perks are great. They can be easily led, maybe even easy to be blackmailed. If they play the game right, the money people will finance their subsequent campaigns - and everybody gets what they want.

Everyone except their constituents and the rest of America who also suffer from their actions/inactions.

Sometimes I wish I didn't follow politics.

Did you know this law existed?

I never really thought about it. I always figured this was something we learned in grade school & we continued out of respect, if not peer pressure at the ballgames. But I never, ever thought it was a law.

As an American I'm not so sure I appreciate a law dictating behavior on the books. I wonder what the history is behind the law's passage. Why it had to be legislated. Is it a McCarthyism or cold war law?

Regarding The Star Spangled Banner:

There is even a federal law (36 U.S.C. § 301) mandating that anyone in the presence of an anthem performance must "face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart.

Drug tests for welfare? Snyder's office says it's too early to tell

- snip -

Requiring a clean drug test as a condition for receiving cash assistance would have support within the Republican-led state Legislature. But supporters said they want to make sure the plan would survive a legal challenge, unlike a Michigan plan from more than a decade ago that federal courts derailed.

- snip -

The Michigan Department of Human Services, under orders from the Legislature, recently prepared a memo related to possible drug testing of welfare applicants and recipients. The department said the testing would be "feasible" and could include a possible pilot program for suspicion-based drug testing of welfare cash assistance applicants and recipients.

Suspicion would be based on the results of drug screening, which could range from questions on welfare applications to "professional screening tools."

- snip -

Missouri enacted a law that requires the state's social services agency to develop a program for screening welfare applicants and recipients, and then test those for whom there is reasonable cause to suspect illegal drug use. People who refuse to be checked and those who test positive and do not complete a program, will be ineligible for benefits for three years. While participating in a substance abuse program, people could keep their benefits.

Who would pay for this? This will create a new industry that will cost the state money. An industry that would make a wealthy, well-connected political donor even more wealthy/powerful.

Maybe we should have a citizen's brigade to randomly test the urine & breath of the Governor, State Legislators, judges, & the staffs of all these agencies. I would modify and apply this sentence to their outcome: "People who refuse to be checked and those who test positive and do not complete a program, will be ineligible for benefits for three years."
