Joe BidenCongratulations to our presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden!

Tue Mar 17, 2020, 03:44 AM

In 24 hours we will have a presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party

The numerical possibility of Biden achieving the nomination under proportional allocation will move from 99% to 100%.

The thin veneer of pretense that Sanders (I) has an outside chance of getting a first ballot win or go to a second ballot where Super Delegates can overcome the popular vote will no longer be tolerated by any serious person regardless of who they personally support.

A small cadre of folks who believe that if you really really believe life can mirror a musical and groups can break out into dance and orchestrated song and that Bernie is not only a very sweet person but can also win will persist but even Sanders (I) will acknowledge the obvious.

Sen Sanders (I) will face the ultimate professional challenge of his life

1) make the decision to become a team player and make an enthusiastic and unqualified endorsement of Vice President Biden, or,

2) find an ideological pretense ("let everyone have an opportunity to let their voice be heard at the ballot box", or some other nonsense) so that he can continue to build a post 2020 war chest that will enable him to raise up a couple of dozen true believers to run against Democratic incumbents in 2022 primaries.

It would be great to see Sanders (I) exit at the top of his game with grace and dignity, but it is doubtful.

What is known is that after tomorrow this country will start taking a step away from the ledge of bombastic incompetence, aggressive self promotion and criminal greed.

I will stop waking up in the middle of the night with clenched teeth and a recitation of all the Presidential stupid of the day.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Card to tell Bernie to stay in the race.

I am guessing he ends the campaign in June with $ 25 million.

OH Supreme court denied a challenge by a local candidate. It didn't rule that election can be cancelled or postponed.

Sanders really needs to go. We had word today and I can't say where or how that we soon may have a big three shutdown...for a minimum of two weeks. Sanders should get the fuck out and accept he lost which he has.

Biden won't be able to go 4-for-4 today.

Joe will have to be satisfied with only going 3-for-3 with an intentional walk.

14. After tonight Biden will have a lead of 325 delegates

Which means Bernie has to win 71% of the remaining delegates. There is not a single pro-Bernie state left except maybe Rhode Island where in Sanders' best case scenario, he will net 2 delegates.

Even if Biden loses ALL the remaining states by 40:60, he still gets a majority of the delegates.

Drop out Bernie.

15. I think we already have a presumptive nominee. But if you mean...

...that it will finally be a mathematical impossibility for any other outcome to exist, no, that won't happen today, Biden needs more than 1000 additional delegates, and there aren't nearly that many up for grabs today.

16. You don't get it...it will be mathematically impossible given propoprtional delegate allocation for

Sanders to catch Biden...Already Sanders would have to win all the races by at least 20 points which will not happen.he is done and after today, there is no path. He should concede tonight.

18. No, it will not be *mathematically impossible* tomorrow.

Words have meanings. As long as Bernie could conceivably win by capturing all remaining delegates, it is not mathematically impossible for him to win. Of course that's not going to happen. But if we're going to talk about what's not going to happen, well I think we've already passed that threshold (and you do as well, based on "Already Sanders would have to win all the races by at least 20 points which will not happen" ). So what if after today, he would have to win all remaining races by 30 or 40 points instead of 20? That's still in the "will not happen" category, but not mathematically impossible.

But assuming today goes as expected, with Biden further increasing his delegate lead over Sanders, I do think it would be good for Sanders to step aside.

19. Yeah because he can win 70% of the remaining vote? No it is over and he needs to concede tonight.

I guess we will find out about what sort of character he has...in the middle of a dangerous crisis will he do the right thing and end the primary? He has no path to the nomination and only hurts our efforts in the General.

21. We seem to mostly agree here except for the actual definition of "mathematically impossible."

I agree, realistically, he won't win 70% of the remaining vote. Nor is he going to win 57%, which I believe was the number as of yesterday (or thereabouts). But as long as the number does not exceed 100, it is not mathematically impossible, and I'm not sure getting 70% is so much less likely than getting 57%!

Though just to play devil's advocate, there is a way he could conceivably win 70% or more of remaining votes... god forbid... something happens to Biden that forces him to quit the race. Though perhaps even then, some who "suspended" their campaigns would re-enter? I have no idea how that would work. And I hope we never find out!

20. It won't be possible anymore...even if Biden lost every remaining race which won't happen, Sanders

can't catch him give proportional allocation after tonight...he will have to 350 to 400 delegates more than Sanders.

22. Reasonably it is "mathematically impossible" because of proportional allocation.

Sanders would have to consistently win 75% of the vote in primary voting states.

His largest margin of victory at the polls was Vermont. Biden is likely to surpass 70 in 2 states today.

While the bare numbers would allow for a theoretical chance the assumptions needed for any scenario where Sanders could catch up are so fantastical as to put it at less than 1/10th of 1 %.
