Democratic Primaries

I see that Paul Begala said that Trump will drop his Pence and add Nikki Haley to the republican ticket this summer. Mr. Begala is a smart man, and he may be right. Trump's re-election campaign has told him that Pence neither adds to nor subtracts from his level of support. Placing Pence as the head of the administration's efforts to prevent and contain the coronavirus could kill any prayer Pence has to remain, should Haley be open to the idea.
But tonight, on the eve of the Super Tuesday primaries, I do not think it matters who runs with Trump. I remain convinced that any one of our candidates would beat Trump. And whoever our nominee is, we are going to win.
Hence, my questions: who do you want to see as the 2020 ticket? Who are in particular do you think would, as the vice presidential candidate, create the best balance? Why?
There are, as always, no wrong answers. I'm just curious who others view as the best VP picks?
Thank you,

(13,964 posts)If the nominee is Biden, I think Warren will help shore up progressive enthusiasm for the ticket. Kamala Harris would be a good choice also.

(73,536 posts)I like both Warren and Harris. They are both people I'd be happy to campaign for, no matter where they might be on a presidential ticket.

(25,183 posts)as popular with the fundies as Pence is? Right now, the evangelical vote is solid for Trump because they really want Mikey to be president some day, and being VP is a step in that direction.
I presume that an older white male is most likely to be our nominee, that would mean that a younger woman of color would be the best pick for the VP slot.

(73,536 posts)I doubt that she is as popular as Pence with the fundies. But they apparently support Trump for the federal judges he appoints, rather than Pence. I suspect that if Trump were to do so, it would be to appeal to women.
I definitely agree with you on that, and think that there are lots of younger women of color within our party with a lot of talent to pick from.

(73,536 posts)It does take two people from the northeast. Being old, I remember when there were attempts to avoid doing that 60 years ago, but I don't think it is as important as issue today. Picking the best ticket outweighs everything else.

(33,328 posts)Biden / Warren, Warren / Biden -- either way brings us experience, healing, international restoration, and drive for progress.
Biden / Harris would suit me, but it might not stir as many voters. Harris would make an excellent AG to try to clean up and restore the DoJ.
Biden / Klobuchar would not excite those who are looking for a big, progessive push.
Biden / Booker would work, too!

(35,454 posts)Past time for a woman to seriously be on the ticket. So either of them would be who I would like to see as veep. It would be a great boon to the female vote and if Harris, would help with the African American vote. Both are whip smart and would do us proud. Also, if the dump does put Haley on it would counter that.

I think that Senator Harris would be a great VP or Attorney General. I had assumed she would do better in the primaries, and think she would have if people had more exposure to her campaigning. And Senator Warren is amazing. I have a very high opinion of both of them.
Trump would pick her as a gimmick, at least in his mind. Not because he respects or admires her.

(46,166 posts)She won't join the ticket if she thinks Trump is a boat anchor regarding her own political future. Trump could beg her but he'll have to talk to the hand if his poll numbers drop like a rock by summer. She won't be the wind under his wings.
That's about as close as I can come to an opinion.

(43,049 posts)too smart to take the job.
Anyway, I'm thinking Klobuchar has the requisite skills to help Biden put things back together. It will be a big job, take a lot of energy, and no whining or moving off track allowed. And that could let her move up to the top spot in four years.
Harris and Warren are probably best left in the Senate, or cabinet positions. There they can do a lot more than as Veep.

(3,845 posts)Michelle Obama is at the top of my VP list. Kamala Harris next. Stacy Abrams is up there. Elizabeth Warren would be a great choice and so would Amy Klobuchar. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may be a little young yet. Cory Booker.
