What Robert Mueller basically did was return an impeachment referral. Now it is up to Congress to hold this president accountable.

We need to start impeachment proceedings. It's our constitutional obligation.

2020 could be a dicey election. We cannot impeach without the Senate and they are going to do nothing while they pack the courts with a ton of right wing federalist society people who will park there for 35 years.

The flip side, of course, is that Trump could win in 2020 without an impeachment. How would Democrats look then?

No president has deserved impeachment more richly than Trump. Nixon, for all his faults, actually had redeeming qualities; he was skilled at international diplomacy (at least on the large scale) and gave us the EPA. Trump has no redeeming qualities at all, and his crimes are far more extensive. But if there's no chance for success, I worry that it could backfire.

You are confusing impeachment with a trial and conviction/removal.

If you go back and look at the foundational documents between the framers, you will find they thought the impeachment process itself is a large punishment.

You also are ignoring that a huge part of the Blue Wave was elected to HOLD TRUMP ACCOUNTABLE (as best we can), it was not only over kitchen table issues.

It's imperative for the House to move forward on impeachment. The Senate will leave him in place but badly weakened.

Impeachment will allow the House to bring in even more evidence, and would expedite the judicial process. It's an obvious--stated--given that the Senate will not convict, and Mueller has said a sitting president cannot be indicted (which I always figured he would do). So are we to sit on our hands and do nothing at all? Of course not. Bring all of his crimes to public light. If the people believe that Mueller has exonerated Trump (and the GOP will continue to say this), then his re-election becomes a very real possibility, maybe even a certainty. We need to keep the pressure up, we need to utterly discredit him, and impeachment is now our only recourse.

The chances of his being convicted in the Senate are as close to nil as it's possible to get, but he -- and the Republicans can still be exposed and disgraced by the impeachment process in the House alone.

If that doesn't happen, he will win the next election and the Republic will be lost. I'm convinced that failure to impeach will implicate the Democratic party in House in that loss because they, alone, are responsible for holding him accountable.

This is no time for timidity.

they are going to pack the courts no matter what.

Not impeaching feeds the narratives that the dems are weak & that there aren't any differences between the two parties. Voters gave the House to the dems to hold this administration accountable. If the House punts this back to the voters in 2020, there could be a backlash of poor morale & low turnout.

Trump will claim victory no matter what. No conviction in the Senate & he will say he was exonerated. No impeachment investigations at all & he will say even the dems didn't believe he was guilty. We're pretty much damned if we do & damned if we don't.

Considering how compromised our electoral process is, & how corrupt the other side is, I don't know if I could have written the dem party in a worse position.
