It was Magic or Kareem. (West and Wilt didn't win enough given the greatness in that group)
Same reason I said Magic, because Kareem did not win any chips for 5 years until Magic got there.
Magic changed the way they played, so much, that they won 5 in 9 seasons.

from Mikan as the Lakers having a dominant big man—followed later of course by Kareem and Shaq (I'm surprised Shaq got zero votes).

I was a fan of the Baylor/West team but that duo could never overcome the Celtics—bad luck and Auerbach trickery in Boston Garden.

Seems Kobe should've got more votes too but to me it's a toss-up between Magic and Kareem.

Couple other thoughts:
- IIRC, Wilt led league in assists on year with Lakers. He looked around at West, Goodrich, and Hairston and decided he didn't need to score much. That's how good he was.
- My dad met George Mikan in the early 50s. Just an add cuz Mikan was in the conversation
- The Celtics true greatness was essentially based on Auerbach being so much smarter & more progressive than the other guys running teams. Just think, they're in the finals, then they get to draft Havlicek! College player of year, I think. They win, win, win, and still manage to get the best new kid. Somebody got smoked by Auerbach, again.
