"Charlotte," the red-haired women in the video below, was one of many protestors at a recent lecture sponsored by a Mens Rights group at the University of Toronto. A MRA documented her attempts to read an article by our own Lindy West detailing how feminists also want to dismantle society's archaic definition of masculinity. Charlotte was pissed off and feisty because she was consistently interrupted as she tried to explain how feminists hate the patriarchy, not men themselves. Her message wasn't anti-men, it was anti-gender stereotypes and anti-oppression. But she wasn't subservient. And now she's paying for the crime of being a woman with a public opinion.
After the video received around 300,000 views in one week, thousands of MRAs joined forces to harass and cyber-stalk Charlotte: they've circulated her personal info, dredged up details about her past (once told Charlotte that her dog who died years ago would be "disappointed" in her), and sent her messages threatening to rape and kill and rape her again one of the more PG-rated ones promises that "we will not rest until your unholy blood is shed."

(115,103 posts)If a woman says anything they don't like, they cone out with the same routine. Rape/death threats, doxxing, various other forms of harassment.
Edit to add: After I posted this reply, the Google ad to the side is 'speed date sexy Asian ladies'.. I wonder what keyword from the thread thus far triggered that ad.

(2,670 posts)I can't understand why they are so against tearing down the patriarchal system that hurts everyone. Men get screwed by this patriarchal crap too it needs to be torn down and the human race can just be equals. Otherwise our species at some point is doomed

(115,103 posts)Lots of people aren't assholes. The assholes delude themselves by pretending everyone else is an asshole too, but its really just them.

(41,975 posts)From everywhere and not just MRA's--they're just the ones proud of themselves-- the nature of on-line communication is a cesspool for misogyny. What's disturbing, is some the language, like rape threats against a woman someone doesn't agree with, is so socially integrated it seems normal to the ones using it.

"Ladies," my shiny hiney! That's just a ploy to keep us "in our place."
I'll believe there's change when Johnson and Johnson makes commercials with men gleefully wielding swiffers and mops.

They stalk feminists on DU. They don't believe in the patriarchy, they believe that feminists are bigots because they focus on womens rights. They say they aren't an MRA, yet their words and their actions are very similar.

(115,103 posts)that really should have been a wake up call.
Well, that and all the MRA talking points themselves. But, oddly, very few seem willing to call the shit out. We are apparently supposed to treat such idiotic bullshit as simply 'differing opinions'.

The hardest disguise in the world to pull off isn't in looking like someone else, it's in not looking like yourself regardless of how many masks are being worn. And to be perfectly honest, I believe the five or six usual suspects are simply not progressive in any sense of the word, let alone politically.
MRA's are about as logical, as valid, and as intentionally purposeful as is "White Pride". Reading a lot of the material available on-line this weekend, I substituted "male" with "white", and "female" with "African-American"... I wasn't too surprised when it sounded precisely as though I was reading from a 1963 Klan announcement.
