One Angry Girl: Myths of Porn.

Myth 3: Porn is an outlet or safety valve for men who might otherwise do Bad Things

"The relationship between particularly sexually violent images in the media and subsequent aggression...is much stronger statistically than the relationship between smoking and lung cancer."
--Researcher Edward Donnerstein

Many porn apologists have theorized that using pornography helps oversexed men get those nasty impulses out of their system safely. Without porn, they insist, more rapes would occur.

We at o.a.g. know this isn't true, because despite the phenomenal growth of all kinds of porn during the last few decades, reported rapes have increased 500% since 1960, according to the National Victim Center. In New York City in 2002, for example, all crime decreased except rape, which increased.

That's just one example of many similar cases. Cases which for some strange reason aren't very widely covered.

Nevertheless, she was murdered by the very sort of men whom she was paid to work her magic upon, so all their nasty impulses could be extinguished safely

And this, from the article, so, so sad.

Lisa Harker, of the NSPCC, said:
‘Sadly we are hearing about more and more cases like this. ChildLine has
seen a surge in calls from young people exposed to hard core
pornography on the internet and from young girls saying they are being
pestered, coerced and even forced into mimicking these videos.

The patriarchy is getting meaner & they are inducting our boys younger. I wish it were because it's its last dying breath, but I don't think that at all.

I've pondered this before. We are a species facing a number of crises, many self-made. Are we experiencing a collective FUBAR moment? Cuz it feels like everyone is out for themselves & the general human attitude on the planet is to party like it's 1999 cuz there may be no tomorrow.

it is because men have lost the power and control and ability to subjugate in all area, but this one. holding on strong. and the women that participate and allow.

That it is losing power? Do you think that more & more men are waking up to the travesty of the patriarchy, & not just how it harms women, but how it harms men, too?

You're more in touch than I am, so I will hold onto your optimism.

a decade or so ago. they did not like the feel of losing it. and that is the backlash we feel today. the struggle to hold on. and the only way they can is thru pornifying women and girls. i think it is escalating. i think it is trying to become a norm. i think it will have to do much more damage in relationships and men as a whole (wont matter the harm to women) before they really see this as an issue.

I think the increasing awareness of these issues is pissing some people off, seriously, and I think as more people of both sexes snap out of their complacence, the backlash will only intensify.

Even now, with the relatively muted voices that are calling this out, we see intensely hateful and violent responses. I don't see those who are so desperate to maintain the status quo being anywhere near giving up. They are just getting started (e.g. the increasing propaganda from and recruitment efforts by MRA scum).

Essentially it says, men will rape if not sexually stimulated. I'd be pissed if I were a man and someone told me that shit.

Speaking of evo-psych crap, this is an interesting read:

The rape issue

(This is part three of a four-part series)

According to Thornhill and Palmer’s book, A Natural History Of Rape, allegedly men rape because they aren’t getting enough sex. Rape is a male sexual strategy to get around a shortage; it is an inborn or innate behaviour. Dismissing the feminist argument, the authors declared rape isn’t about power at all but sex.

Criticising the book, evolutionary biologist Jerry Coyne says it is “the worst efflorescence of evolutionary psychology that I have ever seen”. Rape is pathological, not natural, he says. Are all rapists mentally ill? While there are many instances of sadistic rape when the rapist is turned on by his victim’s pain and suffering — such as the gruesome one that occurred in Delhi, the vast majority of rape cases are committed by seemingly normal men. For instance, studies in the U.S., for lack of any from India, show no pathological differences between rapists and non-rapists. Besides, rape is too commonplace to be committed by a lunatic fringe alone.

Studies conducted in Canada and the U.S. show rapists are more sexually experienced than other men. The assumption that the main culprits were men who stood little chance of getting sex proved to be incorrect. This blows a hole through Thornhill and Palmer’s hypothesis that it’s all about sexual access.

If rape was innate behaviour, it should occur in all human societies. But anthropologist Peggy Sanday found rape is rare in 45 societies out of 95 about which she had information. Rape is common in only 17; it is reported in 33 other societies, but there were no further details. According to ethnologist Verrier Elwin, rape is non-existent among the Gond from central India. Anthropologist Jill Nash reports that the Nagovisi from the island of Bougainville, near Papua New Guinea, couldn’t even imagine how to rape.
