History of Feminism
Related: About this forumI just can't believe that in 2013, articles like this are written.
A couple of months ago, when I was reporting a feature on Mark Sanfords political comeback and the ongoing soap opera between him and his ex-wife Jenny, one of his associates told me: Clearly Jenny has the ability to determine whether Mark wins or loses this race. It now seems clear that shes chosen the latter.
Jenny insists that she did not leak to the Associated Press the court filings that revealed that Mark had trespassed at her home in early February. Those documents the AP has are legit, she told The Wall Street Journal. They deal with a number of private domestic matters and it was my understanding they were to remain sealed along with our divorce documents. I did not choose to make this information public nor did I choose the timing of his last trespassing. Which may be true. But Jennys not a dope. Shes a savvy political operator, and she had to have known that simply by filing those court documents in the middle of a campaign, there was a very good chance they would eventually leak.
Indeed, while Jenny has never come out and publicly opposed Marks congressional candidacy choosing to remain officially neutral shes waged a brutally effective passive-aggressive campaign against it. Whether it was revealing to me that Mark had shamelessly asked her to manage his election bid; or telling the Washington Post that, until the night Marks fiancée showed up onstage at his victory party in April, one of her sons had never met the woman; or just generally making it known that she is furious that hes running, Jenny has done a masterful job of keeping her ex-husbands past (and not-so-past) transgressions in the news. She has seeded the ground with political land mines, stood back, and waited for Mark to step on one.

(13,461 posts)Their personal behavior, and its consequences, are never their own fault. It's always some evil woman that caused all the trouble. So sad that they are cursed to be puppets without higher human function and self control.

(345 posts)so what? If this guy didn't keep fucking up, there wouldn't be anything to publicize. God forbid these idiots ever take responsibility for their own actions.
While I don't particularly give a shit if he's a cheater or not, as the woman cheated upon she has every right to hold a grudge and respond in any legal way she chooses. Like we're fond of saying, a couple's relationship is between them, and its her decision to forgive and forget or get even. Looks like you pissed off the wrong ex-wife. Not only politically savvy, but also a woman of means. And if you and your media stooges believe she's vindictive, maybe you shouldn't give her the figurative ammo to shoot with.

He goes to her house without her knowledge and somehow, she has ruined him.
Sick thinking is quite popular... I read a similar article out in GD, and some were agreeing that she is out to get him!

(22,336 posts)It's not his fault for doing it. It's her fault people know he did it. Except she didn't leak the information. There was a court order for him not to trespass, and that must have existed for a reason, and he was aware of it and trespassed anyway, but it isn't his fault for trespassing, it's her fault for letting the court know he trespassed.

(8,267 posts)Don't you know that she forced him (the poor wee soul kicking and screaming the whole way) to FIND that scarlet harlot (who assuredly shares SOME responsibility for compromising this poor man's moral integrity! ),and to be INTIMATE with her!
CLEARLY, he's a wee, innocent man, brutally compelled to do the nasty with someone other than his wife!

(68,868 posts)1) I don't think anyone is claiming that Mark Sanford is a victim of anything but his own incredibly bad judgment;
2) The upshot is that Jenny Sanford always was the brains in that couple, and that one does not cross her without consequences.
This story makes me feel a bit of admiration for Jenny Sanford, even though she's every bit as wingnutty as her clownish ex-husband.
To me, it's a story of a smarter, sharper, and more mature human being taking care of business when another one betrays her and further seeks to humiliate her in public.
I see nothing objectionable in her behavior as described.
And, I really enjoy seeing Mark Sanford get what's coming to him.

(14,530 posts)According to WaPo, mark has been violating his divorce agreement since 2011. He had been warned several times to stay out of HER house. It seems like jenny had enough and finally filed some papers for trespassing. She gave him plenty of chances to correct his behavior, he did not.
But somehow it is Jenny's fault that she filed these papers during his campaign. BTW she filed them the next day. But Mark is somehow aggrieved one? How about; if MARK hadn't illegally entered HER home during the campaign, then the papers would not have been filed during his campaign.
The first one I read, that implied that Jenny was behind this came from mark. We all know how honest he is. He used state funds to visit his mistress, used campaign money for non-campaign expenses, used the state plane to go to private functions and campaign events, and left the state for 5 days, without saying where he was really going. He ended up paying back over $70,000 to the state for playing fast and loose with tax payer money.
Noone should believe him ever.
I find his stalkish behavior and dependency on Jenny more than creepy.
